Fun fact, her “True Blue” album still remains one of the best selling albums of all time. Three different songs from the album were number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100: “Live to Tell”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, and “Open Your Heart”. My mom always told me just how ENORMOUS Madonna was in the 80’s :D

And edit for June 2023, the True Blue album got a very positive response because Madonna was more gritty and her voice was stronger or more powerful than before. I personally think True Blue is her best album and her “height” if you will :)

Robert Liguori In those two live performances she has the same timbre that you hear on this song. I doubt they changed her pitch in "Like a Virgin" (album) because she totally sounded like that when she was part of the group "The Breakfast Club". As a "live singer" she's inconstant, at times sounds good and at times average, but I can mention various good live vocal performances (such as Sooner or Later at the Oscars, Little Star at Oprah Winfrey and more) and she actually sings and dances at the same time (Blond Ambition Tour 1990 or the Drowned World Tour 2001, for examples), let's not forget that she's a trained dancer as well. I think that nobody is able to sing "flawlessly" while dancing and I talk about "real dancing".

Would be crazy, but I think social media would have sucked the magic right out of all of it! Just like phone zombies do at live performances these days. The hysteria the music artists of the 80s and 90s created was some incredible stuff, Maddona, NKOTB, MJ....we just don't seem to see this anymore. The trending music of today just sucks, and is all about poppin bottles and b!tch£s, plus the market is just over saturated due to the ease of posting wannabe music vids on social media. Interesting comment and I never thought of it this way before. In the 60's and 70's everything was still being invented and created for the first time. Spaceships, airplanes, cars, etc. The 80's and 90's were enjoying the fruits of it all. It was the end and culmination of the industrial age and came to a cultural explosion transitioning to the information age.

What kind of cultural explosion it was I cannot put into words, but Friday nights were high schoolers drinking beer watching MTV and it was all music videos. MTV had just come with cable TV.
