MAFFIO es sin lugar a dudas, el nombre más temido y r1espetado en el mundo de la música urbana. Productor de varios de los éxitos radiales más importantes de los últimos años (Mi Alma Se Muere, Que Buena Tú Ta, Super Estrella, entre otros), músico innato, compositor y cantante. Pero sobretodo, creador indiscutido del merengue electrónico, un género que está revolucionando y rompiendo esquemas.
Nació como Carlos Ariel Peralta, un 24 de Enero de 1986 en uno de los barrios más pobres de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Hijo de un ama de casa y un mueblista y músico amateur. Con el tiempo y sin proponérselo, su padre lo bautizó con el nombre que estampa los valores y fundamentos que han marcado su vida, MAFFIO. “Comenzó como una broma broma y así se fue quedando”, comenta el artista. Aunque la palabra mafia se fue modificando hasta llegar a su actual nombre, en el más puro sentido, Ariel ha marcado su vida bajo ese mismo inviolable código de honor y lealtad a su clan familiar y de trabajo.
Cuando era apenas un niño, MAFFIO se mudó junto a su padre a Brooklyn, al Este de Nueva York, aunque nunca dejó de tener contacto con sus raíces en Quisqueya. Durante años, pasó largas temporadas entre un punto y el otro, comenzando así a empaparse de sonidos e influencias tanto de su lugar de origen, como de la cultura americana. “Mis papás estaban separados, y cada vez que mi papá o mi mamá se cansaban de que me portara mal, me “deportaban” al otro”, recuerda el artista con humor.
Su sentido auditivo es simplemente virtuoso. Con sólo seis años logró lucirse en un acto de su escuela tocando de oído Flor De Liz de Beethoven en el piano. Las clases de música nunca lograron esntusiasmarlo, pero a cambio se planteó sus propios desafíos musicales, los cuales lo fueron perfeccionando de forma autodidacta con los años, tanto en percusión como en el piano.
Sus primeros trabajos como ayudante de mecánico, recogedor de basura, trabajador de bodegas, entre otros, siempre fueron un puente para ahorrar lo necesario e invertirlo en su sueño de hacer música. Su primera gran inversión fue un computador y un piano con los cuales comenzó no solo a darle forma, sino a diseñar su propio mercadeo y difusión a través de las redes sociales. De voz a voz, twitter a twiter, posteo tras posteo en facebook, sus temas comenzaron a difundirse hasta llegar a oídos de productores del género urbano como Boy Wonder, entre otros.
Con sólo 20 años, MAFFIO se dio el gusto de debutar profesionalmente como productor con Fuego, Pitbull y Omega con el tema "Mi Alma Se Muere", el cual se ubicó entre las 20 primeras posiciones de las listas de Billboard Latin Rhythm y Tropical Airplay durante 22 semanas. El año 2004 fue especialmente difícil para MAFFIO, pues perdió en forma dramática a su única hermana, de 23 años. Su gran refugio en ese momento, fue la música.
Sus éxitos no se han detenido. Sin embargo, su talento va más allá y Rico Cabrera, presidente y co-fundador de SpanGlish supo descubrirlo, firmándolo como artista exclusivo de su sello dedicado a descubrir y desarrollar a los mejores exponentes de la música urbana.
El verano de este año estará marcado por MI SONIDO, el álbum debut de MAFFIO como artista. Un disco que promete un abanico de fusión, ritmo y vanguardia en música. “Literalmente es mi sonido, mi manera de mostrar mis influencias, la caribeña y la anglo, el merengue con el hip hop, de una forma diferente”, asegura. El disco contará con la colaboración de artistas invitados como DJ Kane, Ricky Rick, Pitbull, Gente de Zona, Cosculluela, y otras sorpresas. En tanto, el 23 de Enero, como regalo adelantado de su cumpleaños número 26, MAFFIO estrena el video de su primer sencillo, Si Yo Fuera El, a través de la cadena Tr3s: MTV Música y Más. “Lo que viene es lo que siempre quise mostrar, algo para lo que me he preparado y con lo que espero divertir y hacer gozar a quien la escuche”, asegura.
