in 2011 Magazine returned with their first new recorded material from the band in 30 years, though Adamson had left the reunion by this point.
Magazine's music continues to be an influence in modern music today. While having roots in the punk and new-wave movements, Magazine combined elements of avant-garde and pop. Radiohead in particular draws on the lyrical style of the group, and have performed "Shot By Both Sides" in concert. What's more, Radiohead's 1995 single "Just", with its ascending guitar hook, bears a passing resemblance to "Shot By Both Sides". Former Smiths singer Morrissey, a fan and acquaintance of Devoto's, covered "A Song From Under The Floorboards" as a B-side to his 2006 single "The Youngest Was the Most Loved". "Floorboards" was covered by My Friend The Chocolate Cake on their 1994 album Brood. Half Man Half Biscuit have performed live covers of a number of Magazine songs. "The Light Pours Out Of Me", from the album Real Life, has been covered by both Peter Murphy and Ministry. Swedish punk band No Fun At All did a cover of "Shot By Both Sides" on their record "And Now For Something Completely Different". Devoto co-wrote two songs with Mansun, "Everyone Must Win" and "Railings", contributing vocals to the latter, and the band later covered "Shot By Both Sides" for John Peel.

Give Me Everything
Magazine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You're gonna receive punishment
I'm gonna lose myself in you
Because you're not quite of this world
There will be rooms
Where we shouldn't meet
Times I want to screw you up
You know everybody
You don't know a thing
You watch me in you
But I know what you're really seeing
With the eyes of the world upon you
You leave nothing to my imagination
And I leave nothing to be desired
'cause you're gonna feel like I feel
Now you give me everything
Now you give me everything
Now you give me everything
Now give me everything
And I'll open up like a sliding door
Oh so oblique and easy
Oh you're so bleak and easy
'cause you're gonna feel like I feel
Now you give me everything
Now you give me everything
Now you give me everything
Now give me everything
I beg of you
I beg of you
I beg of you
The lyrics to Magazine's song Give Me Everything suggest a complex relationship between two people where one person is willing to give everything and the other is willing to receive everything. The lyrics open with the lines, "You're gonna give me immunity, You're gonna receive punishment". The imagery evokes an idea of power dynamics where one person is giving immunity and the other is receiving punishment. The lines, "I'm gonna lose myself in you, Because you're not quite of this world" depicts a sense of vulnerability and a desire to become one with the other person.
The verses continue with lines that create a sense of tension in the relationship, "There will be rooms, Where we shouldn't meet, Times I want to screw you up, And leave you in the street". The lines suggest a desire for control and the potential for the relationship to turn destructive. The line, "You know everybody, You don't know a thing" implies that although the other person may seem well-connected, they don't really understand the singer. The chorus, "Now you give me everything, Now give me everything" suggests a longing for complete reciprocation in the relationship.
The song ends with the lines, "I beg of you, I beg of you, I beg of you", evoking a desperate plea for something that the singer cannot fully articulate. Overall, the lyrics of Give Me Everything paint a complex picture of a relationship with power dynamics, tension, and a desire for intimacy and reciprocation.

@samgub
Still listening to this magnificent song 37 years later , to me this is Magazine's finest, and they wrote so many great ones.
@robjones2408
+samgub Agree with you. Saw them in 1979, and they were
the only band who sounded EXACTLY like their records.
Utterly magnificent and totally overlooked.
@NapoleonSolo61
+samgub agree, my favourite magazine track !
@VincentRE79
This is a good track, but their best has to be Shot by both sides.
@anthonylee9943
samgub thid is still absolutely fantastic to listen to all these years down the line

40 years later for me ….
@ash231266
Just brilliant - the barely-contained aggression of the bass, Dave Formula's funky as f**k keyboards and Devoto's 'in-yer-face' other-worldliness - music doesn't get much better than this for me :-)
