After the Pharrell video went viral, several different record labels tried to sign Rogers. She ended up negotiating a contract with Capitol Records where "she licenses her music to them through her own imprint, Debay Sounds." As a result, she has more control over her sound and image than many artists at a similar place in their music careers.
Rogers's EP, Now That the Light Is Fading, was released on February 17, 2017. She released her major-label debut album, Heard It In a Past Life, in January 2019. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200.
She made her television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 15, 2017, Saturday Night Live debut on November 3, 2018 and Today Show debut on July 12, 2019.
She cites Carrie Brownstein, Patti Smith, Kim Gordon, and Björk as her musical inspirations, while prominent singers Brandi Carlile and Sharon Van Etten - who she calls her "musical big sisters" - have become mentors. She also mentioned in her initial conversation with Williams that she has synesthesia, a benign condition where one or more senses is perceived at once. In her case, she is able to perceive colours as a response to hearing music.

I stand, I wait
With eyes that see
But eyes that can't erase
Hands that hold
But hands that can't embrace
Creature longing for some saving grace
Seen the sun
It set along the banks
When I was young
Oh, and it's been long
Since you've been near
But fate was never kind to us, my dear
So send me out to space
And cut me free
And like a satellite
Just look for me
Oh and if there's darkness
In your sight
I'll be in the corner of the night
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
We live
We grow
We die
It snows
The rotation
The Earth
The sun
We write
We read
We love
We need
We need
We need
We need
I need
I need
I need
I need
I need
I need
Oh, ah, oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Oh whoa
Whoa
Oh whoa whoa
So send me into space
And cut me free
Like a satellite
Just look for me
Maggie Rogers's song Satellite is a beautiful introspective piece that is a reflection on the absence of someone dear, and the longing to be found again. The song opens with the singer mentioning how they are "steady as a rock" while waiting for the one they love to return. The imagery of rock connotes stability and patience. The singer's eyes can see, but they can't erase the memory of their loved one. They try to hold on to something, but unfortunately, it's just not enough. The only thing left within them is a "creature longing for some saving grace."
The chorus of Satellite tells the story of how long it's been since the singer and their love had last been near each other. The singer accepts that fate is never kind to them, but they still hold on to the hope that their love will come back to them. The singer then sings about wanting to be sent into space, cut free, and searching for them like a satellite. They reassure their love that even if there is darkness in their sight, they will be in the corner of the night.
Overall, Satellite is a poignant tale of longing and hope, beautifully framed in Maggie Rogers's unique vocal style and poetic lyrics. It's a song that tells the listener to never give up on the people they love, even if it means searching for them among the stars.

This song is simply incredible. I’ve been a fan for over a year now, but have just barely stumbled into this song, I can say this has quickly placed into my top 3 list of songs by you. You have such a beautiful voice and I really admire your creativity and uniqueness. I’ve been trying to discover who exactly I am as a person and seeing just how you are so comfortable in your own skin and assured of who you are as a person is something that motivates me to just live life for myself and to express my true self in all things.
