Want Want
Maggie Rogers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you want-want what you want-want, then you want it

You're better than the man I knew
When we were in a band and you
Wouldn't flinch and wouldn't make a move
Try to forget the rest
As I watch you get undressed
Pray to God this won't be a mess

And I keep runnin' away
But when I leave, you pull me in again
Oh, here we go
I'll hold my breath and count the times
I walked my feet up to the line
Oh, we both know

If you want-want what you want-want, then you want it
Can't hide what you desire once you're on it
Can't fake what you can't break up with, ooh
If you understand that a few years won't erase it
Might die if you can't live just to taste it
Want-want what you want-want, then you want it

And I want you
Oh, ooh

Oh, can we take this slow?
Everybody's always known
But I didn't want to admit
That when we're cheek to cheek
I feel it in my teeth
And it's too good to resist

And I keep runnin' away
But when I leave, you pull me in again
Oh, we both know

If you want-want what you want-want, then you want it
Can't hide what you desire once you're on it
Can't fake what you can't break up with, ooh
If you understand that a few years won't erase it
Might die if you can't live just to taste it
Want-want what you want-want, then you want it (if you want)
If you want-want what you want-want, then you want it
Can't hide what you desire once you're on it
Can't fake what you can't break up with, ooh
If you understand that a few years won't erase it
Might die if you can't live just to taste it (if you want)
Want-want what you want-want, then you want it

Oh, and if you got a moment, I want on it
Want-want on it, on it
And if you got another hour, I want all of it
(If you want)
Don't wanna wait another moment, I want on it
Want-want on it, on it

Don't wanna wait another hour, I want all of it
Want-want, want

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Maggie Rogers's song "Want Want" discuss the complexities of desire and the struggle to resist temptation. The song explores the push and pull dynamics of a relationship where both parties are aware of their mutual attraction but try to deny or ignore it.

In the opening lines, the singer acknowledges that if you truly want something, you can't help but desire it. This line sets the tone for the rest of the song, emphasizing the intensity and inevitability of craving. The reference to the past, being in a band together, implies a shared history or connection that adds further complexity to their present situation.

The chorus repeats the idea that you can't hide or fake your desires once you're already involved. The singer admits that it's impossible to resist what they both want, even if it means potential consequences or complications. The use of the phrase "a few years won't erase it" suggests that the feelings they have for each other have persisted over time, emphasizing the deep-rooted nature of their longing. The line "Might die if you can't live just to taste it" captures the intense longing and the idea that the desire is so strong it's worth risking everything for.

The following verses delve into the specific experiences and emotions of the singer. They describe the hesitancy and reluctance to accept their own feelings, admitting that the attraction is too strong to resist. The line "But I didn't want to admit that when we're cheek to cheek, I feel it in my teeth" conveys the overwhelming physical sensation and the undeniable chemistry between the two individuals. Despite the desire to escape, the singer acknowledges that they keep getting pulled back into this irresistible connection.

The final repetition of the chorus reinforces the central theme of uncontrollable desire and the longing for fulfillment. The additional lines about wanting every moment and hour demonstrate a sense of urgency and impatience, further emphasizing the intensity and desperation. Overall, "Want Want" explores the struggle between wanting something deeply and the internal conflict that arises from trying to resist or deny those desires. It speaks to the universal experience of grappling with our own desires and the challenges of navigating a complicated relationship.

I agree. HER first album was so innovative. I also reminded me of daniel cesar and haim.

Nope... Just throws more cash into the system. This is clearly not to considered music. Because music transports emotions not whatever this should be lol

I like how the beats are harder and darker on her new stuff than on "Heard It In A Past Life." Don't get me wrong, I loved that album. I just like how Maggie's sound is progressing.

Ugh this song is so. damn. good. I’ve been replaying That’s Where I Am on a loop and I’m so happy to have another song to obsess over until the album comes out. I’m definitely going to be attending one of your shows on this tour because you’ve quickly become my favorite artists. ❤ Heard It In a Past Life literally changed my life when it came out and helped me find the courage to leave my abusive relationship. And now this album is coming out at a time in my life when I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, more in love than I’ve ever been, and I can feel it in my teeth too. I know you’ll never see this but…Thank you Maggie ❤

Wesley Waddell

Feeling it in my teeth too 💙😁
