Various translations of his name include "high priest who does not lie" and "powers of miracles, the high priest does not live", and he claims he was born with dreadlocks, the "holy" hairstyle of Rastafarianism.
Fashek first gained national fame on a television show in the early 1980s, then toured for many years with The Mandators. In 1987, he began a solo career and quickly became the biggest reggae singer in the country. His song 'Send Down The Rain' was especially popular. He won six awards at the PMAN ceremony and then signed to CBS Nigeria in 1988 before moving to Island Records' Mango imprint (a label more accustomed to marketing reggae internationally). His first album for the company included a cover version of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song".
He subsequently recorded several albums for various labels, including Rainmaker for Tuff Gong (1997) and Little Patience for Coral (2004).

yeah uuh uh uh uh
Dem go call you fool call you fool
When they know you are cool
Dem go call you fool call you fool
When they know you are cool
When they know you are cool
Dem a go call you fool call you fool
When they know you are cool
Our Father
Who art in heaven
Hallow be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Let me feel the rhythm of the drum beat
Cause it makes me want to move my feet
Ever since I have been trying to dance along
But I find myself dancing all alone eh oh
Relieve my soul
Relieve my soul
Relieve my soul
Oh lord
Save my soul
Come save my soul
Save my soul o lord
I am bounded
I am bounded by the evil forces oh lord
I am bounded

If life was a thing that money can buy
Rich man will live them and the poor man will die
Everybody heading for the top
But nobody wanna start from the bottom
But I know but I know they got to start they got to start from there
Relieve my soul

Majek Fashekβs song βOur Fatherβ is a prayerful call for divine intervention in the face of societal pressures and struggles. The opening lines of the song suggest the frustration that comes with being misunderstood and undervalued despite oneβs efforts to stay true to oneself. This message is conveyed through the repetition of the lines βDem go call you fool call you fool, when they know you are cool.β Despite this, the song's tone is one of hope, faith, and a willingness to let go of personal burdens by calling on God to intervene.
The lyrics then transition into a call for rhythmic movement, a request to feel the rhythm of the drumbeat and an acknowledgment of the difficulty of dancing alone. The song switches back to a plea to God to save the singerβs soul from bondage and the evil forces that overwhelm him. The song concludes with the famous Lordβs prayer, βOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come.β
The lyrics of βOur Fatherβ highlight the constant struggles of life and the need for divine intervention through prayer. It also speaks to the resilience and hope that faith in God can provide in trying times.
