There really isn't a harder working band out there right now. In 2009 this trio of harmonising charmers notched up a truly astounding 280 gigs. In the spirit of 'The Sparks' inspirational mentality they aim to gig more in 2010. This is one of only a very few bands that I have encountered that realise how much hard work and dedication is required to even get close to actually doing something in the music industry. They will take their career to the main stage at T in the Park and beyond. They will achieve this because they believe they will, and they want others to feel the same about whatever it is they themselves believe in too. There is an unmistakable stream of hope, positivity and whole hearted sincerity in every word of every song.
Make Sparks are forever in the studio, and forever on stage. The level that this band have risen to in terms of following and media awareness in just ten months is a little scary. They really are a big giant 'get your act together' message to other bands. Hard working and full of humility, there likeability is as much to do with their decent banter and off stage persona as it is their addictive, foot tapping melodies on stage. No ego. No self hype. Just good old hard graft, great songs and a love for what they do. Simple. Craig Parker (guitar and vocals), Adam Parker (drums and vocals) and Bobby Garland (bass, vocals and the third brother minus the small inconsequential detail of different parents) are Make Sparks.
They have recorded in London, Dundee, Glasgow,Skye and The Broughty Ferry. They have released two official EP's, three tours and have even gone to New York off their own back to play the circuit there. They also organise their own Festival called Electric Bay. After this years festivals Make Sparks will record their debut album and gradually take further steps down the road to the success that they dream of. Not helicopters and money in the bank, but a capacity festival crowd at sunset as they play their final song. Every hand in the air and every pair of lips mouthing every word. See you there. And to be honest, if anybody wants to chuck in a helicopter as a wee bonus, I don't think they will object.

Make Sparks Lyrics

Bigger hopes, for the new year
Be what you want, do what you like
Say how you feel, I'll be alright
We shouldn't be gone for long
There's a rule, just sit tight
When it snows it seems so black and white to me
(Back on me)
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x3
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x3
Beautiful once
On to my soul
Show your heart
For the hussle
I'll be the one, guiding the way
Burning the torche, blue in the day
Piece of my life all the way
On this road every day
When it snows it seems so black and white to me
Fall back to sleep, just don't turn your back on me
(Back on me)
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x3
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x3
Got to be sombody x6
Got to be somebody x2
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x4
Please be kind, rewind
Oh will you
Run this away x4
The lyrics to Make Sparks's song Rewind speak of the desire for happiness and hope for the future. The lines "Happiness, for a few years/Bigger hopes, for the new year" indicate a fleeting feeling of happiness, suggesting that it is not permanent, and the need for bigger and better hopes for the future. The line "Be what you want, do what you like" could be a call to pursue one's dreams and desires. The next line, "Say how you feel, I'll be alright," suggests that the singer is supportive of the listener expressing themselves. The lines "We shouldn't be gone for long/There's a rule, just sit tight" could be interpreted as a reassurance that things will improve soon, but they need to be patient and wait it out.
The next verse "Beautiful once/On to my soul/Show your heart/For the hussle" could be interpreted as a call for people to show their true selves despite the pressures of society or work. The line "I'll be the one, guiding the way/Burning the torch, blue in the day" suggests that the singer will be a guiding force towards a better future. The lines "Piece of my life all the way/On this road every day" could indicate a commitment to the journey of life, despite the ups and downs.
The chorus repeats the plea "Please be kind, rewind" along with the instruction to "Run this away" three times. The phrase "Please be kind, rewind" is a nod to the days of VHS tapes and reminds listeners to take a step back and revisit certain moments or memories. The song's overall message appears to be one of hope, urging listeners to pursue their goals and be themselves, all while keeping an open mind and heart.

A great song with an equally great video. I've been humming the chorus for days now. I used to play in a band and I'm sure we'd played with you guys in Dundee, but I couldn't find you online. So glad I have now!
