Makeshift Innocence has a unique mystique, which is defined by combining a variety of genres including; Rock, Reggae, Pop and Roots. Makeshift Innocence was originally formed in 2007 by Jesse-James Cameron and Benjamin Bald. Not long after forming, they released their first album "Between Heaven and Hell" with outstanding success and the band was quickly booked into venues across Canada.
Lead singer Jesse-James Cameron spent four years living in Negril, Jamaica as a child. It was there he fell in love with the tones and feel of Reggae music. Trying adding additional members. Bassist Tammy Amstutz and drummer Dylan Lichtenberger were selected among many to enhance the sound of the band. Since, all members have combined to diversify and strengthen the team. These additions also lead to the release of their hit new single "Your Body" to even more critical acclaim.
Makeshift Innocence set out on a 2009 Canada-wide summer tour that extended from Vancouver Island to Montreal, and found themselves well received by fans and new listeners alike, continuing to build their fan base. Remaining completely independent and self-promoted, the group also managed to find time to return to Calgary mid-tour to perform alongside legendary Ben E. King (Stand by Me). While on tour, their new single "Your Body" along with "Tides" was chosen to be in a feature film (shot in Los Angeles) called "the Anniversary". While being featured in a movie was amazing, "Your Body" was also propelling them to the top of the Myspace charts in their genres. Makeshift Innocence hit #1 in Folk Rock, #2 in Reggae and #6 in acoustic and has been steadily increasing those numbers for over the past 6 months.
The innovative sounds exemplify Makeshift Innocence's compilation of rare talents from across the country and globe. The music attracts those of all ages, which is as clear as this cohesive unit plays flawlessly in front of teenagers and elders alike. With momentum rapidly picking up pace, and a 2nd album being recorded as we speak, it's a sure bet you can expect to hear and see more from these guys in the near future.
Crime Of The Century
Makeshift Innocence Lyrics

Cause I don't want to be the guy that you forget tomorrow
I said to you
As you walked on through
I said take it or leave it
Cause you ain't gonna find a love like this
I send you off with a kiss
Ba ba ba ba ba
What are you doing baby
What are you doing
It's like the crime of the century
You've got a body of gold
From your head to your toes
Why won't you give it up to me
I'll tell you what so listen up my girls' a perfect ten
She's got a body made of gold but still won't get inside my bed
She's playing all these crazy games just to stay locked in my head
When all I ever really wanted was to be more than a friend
To see her body moving as her clothes fall to the floor
With every second passing I can feel it more and more
How to get a woman with a heart caught up with love
While always fully knowing she won't ever give it up
What are you doing baby
What are ya doing
It's like the crime of the century
You've got a body of gold
From your head to your toes
Why won't you give it up to me
Oh just do it
Get out of my head
These lyrics are about a person who is trying to pursue a woman who seems to be hesitant to commit to a relationship. The singer of the song is taking it slow and trying to take control of the situation by taking a step back and then two steps forward. He doesn't want to be forgotten by the woman tomorrow, thereby trying to get her to commit to him by stating that she may not find love like this with anyone else. Even though he appreciates her golden physique, he is more interested in having a meaningful relationship with her where they feel more than just friends. His desire for the woman is burning, and he can feel it more and more with each passing second. He feels as though he's committed the crime of the century by wanting her and waiting for her to respond. He is frustrated and wants her to give in to her feelings which he has for her. By telling her to get out of his head, he is convincing her to act on her emotions towards him and give him a chance by getting intimate with him, to form a deeper connection.
In conclusion, the song revolves around the theme of love and the hassles of unrequited love. The singer, despite appreciating the woman's physical appearance, is frustrated that she won't commit to him. He wants her to act on her emotions towards him and give him a chance by getting intimate with him, which can then result in the formation of a deeper bond.
