Lady
Mako Road Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lady walks like me,
She knows where I'm goin'
We grin through gritted teeth,
Step into my reflection
The yellow fragrant, mystery,
Imaginations, runnin' free, run free

Holly rode in darkness,
Low ceilin', feelin' distant
No mistake, I'll treasure,
A minute in a memory
The yellow fragrant, mystery,
Imaginations, runnin' free, run free, yeah

In a day I'll find the time for, driftin' out of line
And the further that I turn, the things that I design,
Bring me back, bring me back

You take me on a ride
Long as we drive, the more I look behind
The yellow fragrant, mystery,
Imaginations, runnin' free, run free

In a day I'll find the time for, driftin' out of line

And the further that I turn, the things that I design,
Bring me back, bring me back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mako Road's song Lady are filled with vivid images and metaphors. The track has a dream-like quality to it, borrowing from the sensations of nostalgia and wistfulness. The song revolves around a woman who walks like the singer, suggesting a sense of familiarity and identity. The phrase "we grin through gritted teeth" implies that there is something uncomfortable or awkward about the singer's relationship with this woman. However, there is still a sense of shared purpose, as they "step into [the singer's] reflection."

The line "yellow fragrant, mystery" adds to the surreal atmosphere of the song. The color yellow is often associated with optimism and hope, but it is also known for inducing caution and warning. The word "fragrant" suggests a pleasant scent or aroma, while "mystery" alludes to the unknown.

The imagery continues throughout the song, with a section that describes a moment on a dark road. The singer is riding with someone named Holly, and they share an experience of feeling "distant" in the low-ceilinged space. Again, there is a sense of fleeting camaraderie, as the singer vows to "treasure" the moment in memory.

The chorus of the song offers a sense of feeling lost and finding oneself through wandering. The singer longs to "drift out of line" and lose themselves in imagination. The repetition of the phrase "bring me back" feels like a plea to the universe to ground them in reality.

Overall, Lady is a song that explores themes of identity and escapism. The lyrics create a surreal dreamscape that is both comforting and unsettling, reflecting the often-confusing nature of personal growth and self-discovery.

2024 jamming here in the US

@owenduke8

never really realized until now but in order to film videos that are eventually played like this, in slow motion, they must've recored the shots by playing the song at a higher tempo. play it at 1.25x to get a better feel for it. that's probably slightly faster than real life. they were probably playing at about 1.1 or 1.15 speed to record the shots.

damn, I'm stoned

Hey! Yeah you're right, we played the song at 2x speed and shot in 50fps slowing it down by half :)

My exact thoughts were 1. "Well I DO need another band to listen to non stop other than STIFI". and 2. "Is this what STIFI fans felt like 8 years ago?"
