Born in Oxnard, California and brought up in Bakersfield, Malik was raised between rich musical cultures as he absorbed rancheras, pop and R&B. With a bi-racial family (African-American and Mexican), his maternal grandmother exerted a strong musical influence via the impassioned vocals of Vicente Fernandez and other artists in the traditional Latin genres. “I love the emotion in those singers,” Malik notes.
Although his father had toured Europe with a hip-hop band and other members of his family were in the entertainment business, initially it was football that appeared to be his destiny. Attending college on an athletic scholarship and excelling as a running back, he was sidelined by an injury. Gravitating toward musical endeavors, he began shooting performance videos in his college dorm room, and sharing them with an online audience.
“I always wanted to be a singer and to do it full throttle,” Malik says. “I thought, ‘What if I took all the effort I’d put into football and transferred it over to music?’” Malik’s uncle, producer and industry executive Edward “E-Dub” Rios offered him an opportunity to work in the studio as a vocalist on songwriter demos. In the recording booth, it became apparent that Malik possessed both the enthralling power to interpret songs and the necessary charisma to connect them to listeners. A melodic approach was crafted that acknowledged Malik’s essential influences – from Latin crooners to Sade and Portishead - to showcase his undeniable musical signature.
As videos reveal, his lithe athleticism is perfect for the camera, and his captivating voice resonates with both experience and innocence. With his spirit of competition intact, Malik is ready for the next step. “I want to win.” He concludes. “I take that attitude into music, to challenge myself to be better, and to achieve success in everything that I do.

I'm always on your mind
I know you wonder why
I wonder too
Although I know you try
Can't help but slip sometimes
I'm here to ease your mind
That's all I do
I got some news for you though
He ain't gon' take you back this time
You callin' him at like six in the morn
It just don't hit anymore
And that's when you decide
I know you tryna do better but it doesn't matter
He said it's whatever to you
He doesn't know any better than you
He doesn't know it's no better than you
No one matters but you
Not just flattering you girl I mean it
I been fiendin'
Baby I see right through all of yo flaws
But I can't save you I can't save you nah
And when you down you know i'm who you call
Let me ease yo mind
Girl take this as a sign
I'm always on your mind
I know you wonder why
I wonder too
Although I know you try
Can't help but slip sometimes
I'm here to ease your mind
That's all I do
Back with him what's new
You can tell the truth
I been there
Stuck on your first love that shit like glue
Just know you got me too
I know what to do
I'm still here
Use me when you want girl i'll come through
Girl take this as a sign
I'm always on your mind
I know you wonder why
I wonder too
Although I know you try
Can't help but slip sometimes
I'm here to ease your mind
That's all I do
