Mandisa grew up in Citrus Heights, California (Sacramento County) and graduated from El Camino Fundamental High School. She then attended American River College in Sacramento where she studied Vocal Jazz. Then she was off to Fisk University in Tennessee and graduated with a bachelor's of music degree with a concentration in vocal performance. Mandisa currently resides in the suburban Nashville community of Antioch, Tennessee. When she auditioned for American Idol in Chicago, she asked the judges to call her "just Mandisa", and she has been billed as Mandisa (with no last name) on the show since the shows Hollywood round. Mandisa was a backup singer for famed Christian author and speaker Beth Moore. She has stated her musical influences run the gamut from Whitney Houston to Def Leppard.
Idol judge Simon Cowell made several comments about Mandisa's weight during her audition. When he first saw her, he quipped are we "going to have a bigger stage this year." Later, when Paula Abdul commented that Mandisa had a "Frenchie" growl to her voice, Cowell responded that a more apt comparison would be to France itself. These were among comments that drew the ire of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, and would be one of the reasons Mandisa would entitle her 2007 album "True Beauty".
According to the Stronger Songfacts, the 11 tracks of Mandisa's 2011 album What If We Were Real encourage shining the light on whom we really are, including both the good and the bad; the theme of the record also coincided with Mandisa's public struggles with food addiction and weight loss. "A struggle is a struggle, and Jesus is there through it all," the singer explained. "He is there in compassion and grace. I have found that what He has spoken to me through these songs has been encouraging and I think that'll be true for other people who are going through their own hard times."

I can't fight it no, no more
Got a story and it's time to tell
'Cause I just can't, just can't keep it to myself
Somebody give me a microphone or a megaphone
Or a telephone (I gotta share it)
You're gonna clap your hands
Gonna wanna dance when you hear it (hear what?)
Good news
Got that old made new
Got that joy coming through
Got me feeling alright
Good news
Got that skip in my step
Feel that beat in my chest
Got that love in my life
I'm talking good, good news
I got that good good news, yeah
I been praying (how long?)
For so, so long
Believing (for what?)
That day would come
He heard me (yes, he did)
And he pulled me out
He put me right here for such a time as now
Come on, clap your hands
Do that funky dance
Good news
Got that old made new
Got that joy coming through
Got me feeling alright
Good news
Got that skip in my step
Feel that beat in my chest
Got that love in my life
I'm talking good, good news
I got that good good news, yeah
If you got it, share it
If you need it, receive it
Come on, tell everyone
That it's all about good news (all about good news)
So much pain in the world
Dark in the world
Sure could use a little light in the world
So come on, tell me your good news
Good news
Got that old made new
Got that joy coming through
Got me feeling alright
Good news
Got that skip in my step
Feel that beat in my chest
Got that love in my life
I'm talking good good news
I got that good good news, yeah
I'm talking good good news
I got that good good news
The song "Good Good Father" by Mandisa is an upbeat and joyful song that celebrates God's goodness and mercy. The lyrics express the singer's gratitude for God's blessings and his power in her life. The opening stanza reveals the urgency and desire that she has to share her story with the world. She has finally found her voice, and she wants to use it to inspire and uplift others. The chorus repeats the phrase "Good news" several times, which is a reference to the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. The singer is reminding her listeners that no matter how difficult life may seem, there is always hope and redemption in God.
The second stanza of the song takes a more personal tone as the singer reflects on her own journey of faith. She has been praying for a long time, hoping that God would answer her prayers. And indeed, he has. The chorus repeats once again, pointing to the joy and fulfillment that can be found in God's love. The bridge of the song encourages the listener to share their own good news with the world. It can be easy to focus on the darkness and pain that exists in the world, but there is always hope to be found in God's mercy.
Overall, "Good Good Father" is a song of celebration and hope. It reminds us that no matter what struggles we may face, we can always find comfort and peace in God's love. It encourages us to share our own stories of hope and redemption with others, so that they too may be inspired and encouraged.

Jesus Loves you and forgives ALL. He holds nothing against anyone. The Cross is forgiveness. His blood can cleanse us of sin consciousness
2 Corinthians 5: 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
That’s why He went to the cross
Romans 10: 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Bless you - Love you
