Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Manni's song Wannabe seem to be a commentary on the current phenomenon of social media, particularly Instagram and the practice of "follow for follow". The repetition of the phrase "INSTAGRAM: VKarashavko / FOLLOW 4 FOLLOW" is a direct representation of the culture of social media algorithms in which gaining more followers equates to more visibility and popularity.

The song appears to be a critique of the superficiality of this culture, where personal validation is tied to numbers rather than genuine connections. The lyrics suggest that people are willing to make superficial and insincere connections in exchange for likes and followers, and that true friendship and connection are sacrificed for the sake of social media status.

The overall message of the song seems to be a warning against getting caught up in the vicious cycle of social media validation and to prioritize genuine relationships over digital popularity.

This is the first song I heard Chris Yong sing. It blew me away. I was folding clothes and the video of this song played and I was in awe, dropped what I was doing and sat there and listened and cried. It still moves me. His voice is just incredible.

Me too, it's a GREAT introduction to his work. Love love love love this song. I'm in a similar boat as him in this song. I often play it to remind me that mine forgives all my 'getting it wrongs' and that we are all human.
