Griffin was raised in the Bay Area, where his mother rented from singer-songwriter, Tracy Chapman. During his teenage years, he moved to Mill Valley and attended Tamalpais High School. After graduation, he went to UC Santa Cruz for music but only stayed there for two years and left school to start 2AM Club in Los Angeles.
Marc started his music career as the lead singer of 2AM Club, releasing an album and mixtape. However, the band was dropped by its label Sony/ATV and went on an indefinite hiatus starting June 29, 2015. Marc went to live with his friend in Los Angeles and wrote songs for other artists. After releasing Only the Poets and East Hollywood and receiving positive critical reception, he was signed to Universal Republic Records.

That leaves me with you
Don′t talk 'bout the drugs now
Unless they on you
Will you fuck on the comedown
Wake up on the news?
Gotta hope that you come soon
Might check out at noon
We kill the uppers and we save our high
I′m saving up for a lifetime supply, yeah
I'm blindfolded baby, girl, please close your eyes
You won't be able to endure this night at times
Bondage, when I′m tied up with you
Ain′t it ironic that I'm bonded to you?
Trying to be honest, this mixed drink will tell truth
I like bondage when I′m tied up with you, yeah
I can't feel the love now without feeling pain
Come through in the black boots
Put sex on my brain
I like being locked up
Just throw me the keys
I like how you pop up
Leave me on my knees
We kill the uppers and we save our high
I′m saving up for a lifetime supply, yeah
I'm blindfolded baby, girl, please close your eyes
You won′t be able to endure this night at times
Bondage, when I'm tied up with you
Ain't it ironic that I′m bonded to you?
Trying to be honest, this mixed drink will tell truth
I like bondage when I′m tied up with you, yeah
Bondage, bondage
Bondage, bondage
I like bondage when I'm tied up with you
Ain′t it ironic that I'm bonded to you?
Trying to be honest, this mixed drink will tell truth
I like bondage when I′m tied up with you, yeah
Bondage, bondage
Grind it, grind it
Honest, honest
Bondage, bondage
The song "Bondage" by Marc E. Bassy is less about actual bondage and more about being trapped in a toxic relationship. The opening lines suggest that the good girls are no longer around, leaving the singer with his current partner. The mention of drugs implies that the relationship may have started on a high, but is now leading to a comedown. The singer hopes that his partner will appear before he checks out at noon, implying that he may be struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts.
In the chorus, the singer confesses that he likes being tied up, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for feeling trapped in the relationship. He also acknowledges the irony of being "bonded" to his partner, and the mixed drink he mentions may represent the ups and downs of their relationship. The final repetition of "bondage" is paired with brief exclamations of "grind it" and "honest," suggesting that the singer is enjoying the intensity of the relationship despite its toxicity.
Overall, "Bondage" is a melancholic yet provocative song that conjures up images of sultry late nights and toxic relationships. The repetitive chorus, paired with the hypnotic beat, serves as a testament to the singer's desire to remain tied up in the relationship despite its flaws.
