Morris was born in Dallas, Texas on April 10, 1990 and grew up with a love of music, saying she was always willing to belt out a tune on the family's karaoke machine by age ten. By the time she was 14, she had learned to play guitar and began playing professionally, self-releasing a debut album, Walk On. Morris had struck a deal with Smith Music Group when she dropped her second album, 2007's All That It Takes; her songwriting was strong enough that she either wrote or co-wrote eight of the album's 13 tracks. Morris graduated high school and was attending the University of North Texas when she self-released her third full-length, 2011's Live Wire. A year later, she left Texas for Nashville, determined to shift her career into high gear.After winning an "Artist on the Verge" prize at the New Music Seminar, Morris got her foot in the door as a songwriter, signing a publishing deal with Yellow Dog and writing tunes for Tim McGraw ("Last Turn Home") and Kelly Clarkson ("Second Wind"). In addition, she ramped up her touring schedule, sharing stages with artists as diverse as Pat Green, Radney Foster, and Marty Stuart, and performing for artists in Europe and the United Kingdom as well as the United States. In 2015, Morris released a digital single titled "My Church," about the close connection between music and driving. The song became a viral hit, generating over 2.5 million streams in a little over a month. The major labels in Music City took notice, and Morris signed a deal with Sony Music Nashville, which dropped a five-song EP featuring "My Church" in November 2015. Sony pushed "My Church" to country radio in anticipation of her full-length debut Hero, which appeared in June of 2016. The album hit number one on the country charts, and earned Morris a lot of attention: She was nominated for several Grammy awards, won CMA's New Artist of the Year, and earned a slot on Saturday Night Live late in 2016. In early 2017, she toured (both as a headliner and with Sam Hunt), and released a deluxe edition of Hero that included several bonus tracks. In October, Morris, in collaboration with Vince Gill, delivered the powerful single "Dear Hate," which was written in response to the mass shooting at Las Vegas' Route 91 Harvest Festival, a stage that she had played the night before that attack. +rockpaperscissors82 , I think that there is a mix. Bro-country is still ruling the day right now with acts like Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, and Cole Swindel. But I think there is also this push from the guys. Brad Paisley has always been a little bit of a blend, but almost with more blue grass roots, and then old timers like Little Jimmy Dickens. The male songs that do come out like that just don't get the air time. Luke Bryan's Drink a Beer was deep and had a lot to it, and then you have stuff like Eric Pasley doing "She Don't Love You She's Just Lonely" which is pretty traditional, and an amazing song. Don't forget about Eric Church either, he gets back to that traditional vibe as well as well as Zach Brown Band from time to time (but not that new song, it sounds like a dance mix). And then you have Chris Stapelton winning male vocalist of the year, and he's really traditional, but you don't hear it as much as you here My Church, or Cam doing Burning House. I think it may be something starting to change the tide of country music, and I hope it is. Give me something with the heart and soul of a song like "He Stopped Loving Her Today," I mean when you start with a line like, "He said I'll love you till I die..." that's got some depth to it.

It's a bit surreal seeing this video. I actually went to West Elementary school with Maren in the sixth grade. She was in Mr, Wyant's class and I, Mrs. Jablon's. She was always nice to me, and I always had a bit of a crush on her, but never acted on it. I was shy, of course. She seems so mature and sounds so grown up now, but she still looks about the same, still her. I heard her sing the national anthem at an event, can't remember if it was high school graduation or something else, but I am happy she is following her dreams. Do what makes you happy, Maren! My mom contracted cancer. She called us, her 4 sons, together for a talk about the future. I was the only one present who said she should sell everything and go travel wherever she most wanted to visit for the rest of her life. My brothers were mad at me because I already had plans for my future that didn't rely on an inheritance, though I'm basically broke myself. I wish she had listened to me. Let me get this straight... The Lord can't use Hank and Johnny or country music for that matter to set someone on the right path? Also how is singing while driving blasphemous? How will hearing this song lead someone astray? She is after all going the down the highway HELPING people.
