She was born July 17, 1959 in Bayshore, New York and worked as a music teacher prior to moving to Nashville in 1985 to take a songwriter job with Sparrow Records. By 1986, the label signed her as a performer and she scored her first CCM chart hit "Fight for God" from debut album NEVER FOR NOTHING.
Her sound for the most part is pop but at times has shown influences from Motown (as on SIMPLE HOUSE's "Talk About Love") and Celtic music (via the NEW IRISH HYMNS series beginning with a 2001 collaboration with Máire Brennan and Joanne Hogg).
Outside her own singing, she formed a publishing company (Modernm) and has produced for other artists. She has also authored several books and involved herself with charitable organizations battling AIDS and poverty.
Honesty

You found the courage to speak your mind
And tear down the walls
You've been hiding behind
You spoke of your struggle
And you cried from the pain
You spoke of your failure
You said, you knew you'd never be alright
God's not afraid of your honesty
He can heal your heart if you speak honestly
Humble sorrow and the honest cry
He will not pass by, no
So many of us spend so much time
Smoothing things over, pretending we're fine
As if life could ever be so cut and dried
But you my, friend
You've got that passionate heart
It'll curse you sometimes
But it can take you far
When you let Him tame it
You will be just fine
Oh, God's not afraid of your honesty
He can heal your heart if you speak honestly
Humble sorrow and the honest cry
He will not pass by, no, no, ooh
You may feel like you're crawling
Over broken glass, crying a river
Into the pillows of your past
But you will be free, yeah
Oh, God's not afraid of your honesty
He can heal your heart if you speak honestly
Humble sorrow and the honest cry
He will not pass by
God's not afraid of your honesty
He can heal your heart if you speak honestly
Humble sorrow and the honest cry
He will not pass by
The song "Honesty" by Margaret Becker is all about being truthful with God and ourselves. The lyrics describe a person who has been hiding behind walls and pretending to be fine for too long. However, by the glow of the firelight tonight, they find the courage to speak their mind and tear down those walls. They admit to their struggles, pain, and failures, but they are also afraid they will never be alright. Despite this, the song reminds us that God is not afraid of our honesty. He can heal our hearts if we speak truthfully with him. When we have humble sorrow and an honest cry, God will not pass us by. Though it may feel like we're crawling over broken glass and crying a river, we will be free if we're honest with our struggles and allow God to heal us.
