That makes no sense - are you under the impression a demo only has 1 song on it? Why would it matter that Someday is on the demo and how does that song's presence prove this song wasn't there? Plus, Mariah had more than 1 demo tape, she made several while looking for a contract.

It wasn't on the demo tape. I did some more research. Apparently, Mariah and Ben wrote Someday together, before she got signed. Someday was on the demo tape, so that suggests Weakness of The Body was written for Brenda and they couldn't have it on the demo tape? I don't know I'm just speculating at this point.

In her early years her tone was much darker than 1996 Daydream. If you follow from the beginning and get used to her voice you'll notice that this is her. The way she pronounces some words is unique to her.

The singing style is very Mariah (check out 3:27-3:30). Mariah always did that with her voice especially during the Mariah Carey era (1st album.) I find it very interesting that this was recorded 1 YEAR AFTER Whitney started out in the music biz - IF ONLY Mariah was making music a LITTLE earlier, there would have been MORE competition. :)

This was originally from Brenda K Starr & Mariah Carey in 1985, Mariah was Brenda’s background vocalist in early-mid 80s. Great song 👍🏻

Its so obvious its Mariah's voice that I cant understand what the fuss is all about. Artists, when they start their careers, may sing all kinds of songs that aren't officially released on an album afterwards. For example, our missed and beloved Whitney and "Feels so good", etc. And they're still great!

that phrase "with Mariah on vocals" only means she's doing backup harmonies on the chorus, underneath Brenda K Starr's lead vocal - I've been a fan and collector of BKS for years now, and can tell her voice apart EASILY from the wonderful Mariah - they're easy to distinguish if you have the ears. the discipline, and the musical background to actually know BOTH artist's singing styles well enough

I think this is a song she just sang, since she was unknown then, as a demo to be passed around to a hundered other singers to see if they would eventually accept it to officially record themselves.

You are correct; I was born in 1997. But Mariah says it was 80's influenced, so I assume that if she were to make another one now, it would sound similar.

@PreciousMariah22 Her prime is definitely 93-96, but I do agree that only true Mariah fans can tell that this is her. Anyone who owns her first album know how she sounded in her teenage years and can trace the similiarities of her voice all throughout her career (deterioriation and all.) There are little thing she does with her voice today that still sound identical to 1990. Anyway I think we can all rest assure that it only matters that the True Lambs enjoy this and ignore the nay-sayers.

The record comany made a big mistake in not releasing Mariah's version. It sounds finished (in either key) and better than most demos.

PEOPLE HAVE GOT THIS SO SO WRONG. YES, THIS IS MARIAH. YES, THIS IS BRENDA. You can CLEARLY hear both of them!! I'm a producer. It doesn't happen often with 'solo' tracks but a technique employed with groups. I remember a J-lo Ashanti blend a few years ago. Needless to say; it's used when your lead isn't as talented as back-ups!
