Missing
Mariana Kupfer Lyrics

I'm walking down
Your street again
And past your door,
But you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
Now you've disappeared somewhere,
Like outer space
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
Could you be dead?
You always were two steps ahead,
Of everyone
We'd walk behind while you would run
I look up at your house
And I can almost hear you shout
Down to me
Where I always used to be
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
Back on the train,
I ask why did I come again?
Can I confess,
I've been hanging
Round your old address?
And the years have proved
To offer nothing Since you've moved
You're long gone, But I can't move on
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
I step off the train
I'm walking down
Your street again
And past your door,
Guess you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
Now you've disappeared somewhere,
Like outer space
You've found some better place
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, (2x)
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you,
Like the deserts miss the rain (5x)
The lyrics of Mariana Kupfer's song "Missing" depict the feelings of a person revisiting the street and the house of a past lover who has moved on to another location, possibly even another life, leaving behind the singer in a state of unquenched longing. The imagery of the deserts missing the rain symbolizes the desperation and the sense of emptiness experienced by the singer, wishing for something or someone that is no longer there. The singer's introspection can be sensed when the lyrics say, "the years have proved to offer nothing since you've moved," indicating that even though time has passed, the yearning has not faded.
The lyrics also hint at the idea that the past lover was someone who was always ahead of their time, and the singer was trailing behind. Even though the singer realizes that the past lover has long gone, the heart still yearns for their presence. The last lines of repetitions in the song emphasize the intensity of the longing, indicating that no matter how much time passes, the singer will continue to miss the past lover like the deserts miss the rain.
Overall, the song speaks to the universal experience of missing someone who has moved on, leaving behind a deep void that cannot be easily filled.

I step off the train
I arrive at my destination by train
I'm walking down
I'm moving on foot
Your street again
I've returned to the street where you used to live
And past your door,
I see the door of the house where you used to live
But you don't live there anymore
You're not there anymore, you've moved
It's years since you've been there
It's been many years since you lived there
Now you've disappeared somewhere,
You've vanished and I don't know where you are
Like outer space
You feel as distant and unknown as outer space
You've found some better place
I think you've found a better place to live, be happy or succeed
And I miss you,
I feel a deep longing for you
Like the deserts miss the rain
I miss you greatly, just as desert landscapes miss the rain they need to nourish and survive
Could you be dead?
I wonder if you could have died
You always were two steps ahead,
You always seemed to be more advanced, confident or successful than everyone else around you
Of everyone
Compared to everyone else we knew
We'd walk behind while you would run
We couldn't keep up with you, who moved faster and further than us
I look up at your house
I direct my gaze towards the house where you lived
And I can almost hear you shout
I can imagine the sound of your voice calling me
Down to me
From an upper floor or balcony to where I'm standing
Where I always used to be
In the place where I would usually wait for you
Back on the train,
I'm boarding the train again
I ask why did I come again?
I question my own motivation for returning to this place without you
Can I confess,
May I admit something personal
I've been hanging
I've been spending some time
Round your old address?
Just passing by your previous house or lingering in its vicinity
And the years have proved
Over time I've learned that
To offer nothing Since you've moved
This area hasn't provided anything rewarding or significant ever since you left
You're long gone,
You left a long time ago and you're not coming back
But I can't move on
I can't seem to forget you or replace you
And I miss you,
I still long for you
And I miss you, (2x)
I miss you so much, I need to say it twice
And I miss you,
I'm reminded of how much I miss you again
Like the deserts miss the rain
I feel a deep, unfulfilled craving to be with you again, like a desert misses the life-giving rain
And I miss you,
I can't stop feeling this way
Like the deserts miss the rain (5x)
I miss you so badly it's like a mantra that repeats unceasingly
