Originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, they gained a local cult following in South Florida in the early 1990s with their theatrical live performances. In 1993, they were the first act signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records label. Until 1996, the name of each member was created by combining the first name of a female sex symbol and the last name of a serial killer, for example Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Their lineup has changed between many of their album releases; the eponymous lead singer is the only remaining original member.

In the past, band members dressed in outlandish makeup and costumes, and engaged in intentionally shocking behavior both onstage and off. Their lyrics often received criticism for their anti-religious sentiment and references to sex, violence and drugs, while their live performances were frequently called offensive and obscene. On several occasions, protests and petitions led to the group being blocked from performing, with at least three US states passing legislation banning the group from performing at state-owned venues. They released a number of platinum-selling albums, including Antichrist Superstar (1996) and Mechanical Animals (1998). These albums, along with their highly stylized music videos and worldwide touring, brought public recognition to Marilyn Manson. In 1999, news media, infamously, falsely blamed the band for influencing the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.

As this controversy began to wane throughout the 2000s, so did the band's mainstream popularity. Despite this, Jon Wiederhorn of MTV, in June 2003, referred to Marilyn Manson as "the only true artist today". Marilyn Manson is widely regarded as being one of the most iconic and controversial figures in rock music, with the band and its lead singer influencing numerous other groups and musicians, both in metal-associated acts and also in wider popular culture. VH1 ranked Marilyn Manson as the seventy-eighth best rock band on their 100 Great Artists of Hard Rock. They were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame in 2000, and have been nominated for four Grammy Awards. In the U.S., the band has seen ten of its releases debut in the top ten, including two number-one albums. Marilyn Manson have sold in excess of 50 million records worldwide.

@@devilgod136 I am going through something similar. Not to the extent Manson is and the accusations do not compare. But I am being lied about and my son is being kept from me. Seems if a woman accuses a man of doing anything wrong she's automatically believed, might as well not even have a trial.
Sad thing is I want to be father to my child but she has no more use for me sense I refused to put anymore money into her house without my name on the deed. So she lied and had me removed from the house via family court in the middle of a pandemic. Even her words in the paper work say "I think he..." or "he might be...".

I know someone who actually used reverse psychology.
He told the judge he was going to give up on his own child because of the sick lies his ex was telling about him and which where damaging his reputation everywhere and that one day his son would know she was the reason he didn't have a father. Strangely, it worked.

I grew up with all genres my father collected 1000s of records from music to this day sounds intense greater than new, rare and always embraced creating more. This record in my opinion among many prices the greater masterpieces won't end. And if we think about all of the eras from ww1 to present we are really still going and it can seem gloom chaotic but in it all is a place where we can relate. I was 16 when I saw the AntiChrist Superstar tour.
I still remember the protests outside, the weed rolled up in bible pages and the chocolate covered mushrooms in the line up, the bubbles at the show, the crowd surfing, the smell of piss, sweat, and blood. His intermission speeches, the podium and suits, the steel helmets, the mechanical stilts. It blew my teenage mind away.
I will always keep that 16 year old's memory with me forever.

It's a really beautiful and deep song and the art give us the chance to see a meaning that resonates with our own life, we can see that we are not alone because have so many people so broken walking in that same path dealing with your inner demons, fighting with personal problems but always moving forward finding a way to get stronger and healthier

I be playing a lot of his music loudly when I need to do a journey through my many conflicting emotions & thoughts. A girl who I desperately loved recently just used the hell out of me for her own selfish desires. Like, it sucks when someone leaves you but when they act like you never actually meant anything to them at all...that's hurts more than most things. I heard other songs from "We Are Chaos" before "Broken Needle", and like MM's other albums, at least one song let's fly an arrow that hits me straight in my head! I can listen to this song on repeat for days! I've only seen MM in concert once. It was at River Rave in Foxboro, MA, in the Spring of 2001. He was the headliner, and as soon as he hit the stage, I jumped up on the bench I had been sitting on, and I felt like I was home. Then it started pouring rain, and a forked bolt of lightning lit up the sky beyond the stage. It was perfect! Many acts played that day, but only two others owned the stadium. Marilyn Manson understands what some of us need to see, and hear, and is able to deliver that experience to those of us who want it! Someday, I will be there again! 🎶💖🎸🎤🎶

My parents introduced me to Manson over a decade ago when I was experimenting through a sort of goth phase with the Lest We Forget Album. It was an instant connection, and I've felt so much connection for his work ever since. Coma Black and Lamb of God meant so much to me when I was experiencing some of my deepest lows. Now it's so far down this road, and my parents no longer speak to me. I feel some sort of irony over their introducing me to an impactful artist to not being worth being a part of my life. Only one part of several things going on recently that are hurting me. The new album was such a joy, and Broken Needle is the melody and lyrics that I needed to hear during this time. Manson says how much it means to him that what he creates makes such a difference in the lives of fans. You can count me in on that group.

If you told me this song was about Evan Rachael Wood I wouldn't think twice, especially since "I'll never play you again" seems to imply that she's a record that he no longer wants to listen to because the memories are just too painful

Bought this in vinyl and the very last note of this song got stuck on repeat. At first I thought it was part of the song but realized the needle was stuck. I thought it was a funny coincidence it happened at the very end of the album on the song Broken Needle. Come to find out, it is intentional. He explained in an interview the vinyl edition has this little special feature. Super neat!
