“Mark and I are like night and day” says James. “Really – if you look at it, we’re totally opposite in almost every way, but we spend all our time together and somehow, I dunno – it works.” James is pretty much an indoors kind of guy; a digital media major who loves art and cooking, he works at the university part-time as a graphic designer and runs a web-site design company on the side. Mark, on the other hand, is a pure jock. After playing Division I lacrosse his first few years at UCF, he now partakes in every sport he can fit into his schedule. His latest craze is rock climbing, which for some reason translates itself into rappelling off of the side of the university parking garage in the early hours of the morning. “I just like being active”, he claims.
When it comes to their music, both share vocal and guitar duties, but whereas Mark sees his strength in lead vocals over guitar, James revels in his electric guitar and feels his strength lies there. Paradoxically, Mark feels much more comfortable singing with his guitar in his hands, and James’s husky voice shares lead vocals nicely with Mark’s clear, poignant tone. Both write, but while James looks for an intense emotion – usually about girls – to spur his creativity, Mark just needs the perfect first line: “I’ll sit around for long periods of time just trying to come up with the perfect first line – from there, I’m golden. It’s just gotta grab you”.
Mark & James do a pretty good job of “grabbing” their audience’s attention. Full of charisma and charm, Mark & James have been gigging around Central Florida for the past two semesters with a band they’ve put together to back them. “Performing is by far my favorite thing to do”, says Mark. “It’s the best feeling in the world to have a fan tell me how a song has impacted them”. Though currently focusing on recording more material in the studio, the two 22-year-old college seniors are continuing to perform out at local clubs and bars. “To really be an artist you have to create your song with everything you have, record it to the best of your abilities, and then give it all away to an audience”, says James. “We are having the time of our lives doing what we love, but we have nothing but good things to look forward to, as long as we can continue recording and performing, sharing our experiences and relating to our fans through music”.

When your presence comes
And fills this house
With all your love
And all your joy
Just because the rain falls from the clouds up in the sky
Just because the birds sing every morning when I rise
Just because you sent your son from Heaven just to die
But here's the reason why
Just Because
Why do I bow
Before your throne
Why do these tears fill my eyes
Why do I cry
Just because the rain falls from the clouds up in the sky; just beause
Just because the birds sing every morning when I rise; just because
Just because you sent your son from Heaven just to die; I can't count the reasons
I can't the reasons why I worship you for all you do
But here's the reason why
Just Because
Yeah
So here's my heart
Here's all I am
Here's why I seek your face
Just because the rain falls from the clouds up in the sky; clouds up in the sky
Just because the birds sing every morning when I rise, morning when I rise
Just because you sent your son from Heaven just to die, I can't count the reasons
I can't the reasons why I worship you
Just because the rain falls from the clouds up in the sky, rain falls from the clouds
Just because the birds sing every morning when I rise, yeah
Just because you sent your son from Heaven just to die, I can't count the reasons
I can't the reasons why I worship you
Just because the rain falls from the clouds up in the sky, clouds up in the sky
Just because the birds sing every morning when I rise, morning when I rise
Just because you sent your son from Heaven just to die, oh I can't count the reasons
I can't the reasons why I worship you for all you do
But here's the reason why
Just Because
Just because you're God
Just because you're God
Somebody help me sing
Just because you're God
Just because you're God
Just because you're God, just because you're God
Just because you're God, I lift my hands just becasue
Just because you're God I honor you just because
Just because you're God You alone are worthy
Just because you're God I worship you
Just because you're God I honor just because
Just because you're God I give my heart just because
Just because you're God oooh just because just because
Just because you're God
Just because you're God
The lyrics to Mark & James's song "Just Because" reflect a profound sense of gratitude and awe towards a higher power, presumably God. The singer expresses their wonder at the presence of this divine being in their life, which fills their surroundings with love and joy. The rain falling from the sky, the birds singing in the morning, and the son of God being sent to die are all examples of God's mysterious and awe-inspiring actions that the singer cannot fully comprehend.
The singer acknowledges their humility and vulnerability in the presence of God, as symbolized by bowing before His throne and shedding tears. These actions are not driven by any specific cause or event but rather by the overwhelming sense of magnificence and beauty surrounding God's actions. The singer is unable to count the reasons why they worship God but recognizes that it is a necessary and instinctive response to all that God does.
The singer emphasizes that their devotion to God goes beyond logical explanations or tangible reasons. They offer their heart, their entire being, and their search for God's face as a testament to their devotion. The rain, the birds singing, and the sacrifice of God's son are reiterated as symbols of God's greatness and the singer's inability to quantify the reasons behind their worship.
Towards the end of the lyrics, the singer emphasizes the simple but profound truth that God is God. They repeat the phrase "Just because you're God" several times, enlisting others to join in praising and acknowledging God's divine nature. The singer affirms that they lift their hands, honor, worship, and give their heart to God simply because He is God.
Overall, the lyrics of "Just Because" celebrate the singer's inexplicable yet undeniable connection to a higher power. They find solace, inspiration, and deeper meaning in the presence and actions of God, and their worship is a natural response to this divine relationship.
