Diamond is from Washington state and grew up in a small town outside of Seattle called Maple Valley. He blames the rain for his style of writing. Through all of the music he writes, Mark hopes to help those similar to him, giving them a moment to quiet their busy minds, even if its just for a moment.
The Beat

Red sun slipping down and its getting late
I try to turn and walk away
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
There's an ocean in your eyes
And I'm waiting for the tide to break
My hands start shaking I cant take it any more
Your heart is breaking but you still close the door
You are the beat to my soul and I am, well I am yours
You're my gravity, the push and the pull
I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go
It hit me then when I left and drove away
Maybe what's best was there in the first place
I wanna turn back is it too late
You're already gone, you're already gone
There's an ocean in your eyes and I'm standing in the tidal wave
There's a world full of lies did I make the wrong mistake
My hands start shaking I cant take it anymore
Your heart is breaking but you still close the door
You are the beat to my soul and I am, well I am yours
You're my gravity the push and the pull
I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go
I'm asking you now
Baby lets work this out
You say the moons going down
Go home
You are the beat to my soul and I am, well I am yours
You're my gravity, the push and the pull
I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go, go, go, go, go
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go,
Go Home
In Mark Diamond's song The Beat, the lyrics tell the story of a person who is conflicted about leaving a loved one. The song is set in a driveway at sunset with emotions high as the singer tries to walk away but cannot bring themselves to leave. They describe 'an ocean in [the loved one's] eyes' and the feeling of waiting for 'the tide to break'. The singer is aware of the dishonesty in the world but is trying to make the right choice despite their hands shaking. The song's theme is the push and pull of a relationship where the loved one is the 'beat to [the singer's] soul' and they cannot bear to leave. The chorus repeats 'I don't wanna go' multiple times, emphasizing the difficulty of the decision to leave.
The song is melancholic and haunting with striking lyrics that evoke visuals of an endless ocean and a setting sun. It is a poignant representation of the internal turmoil that occurs when someone contemplates leaving a deeply meaningful connection. Despite knowing the potential for heartbreak, the singer still holds out hope for reconciliation and is shown finally asking the loved one to work it out. Overall, 'The Beat' is a heartfelt and beautifully written song that connects with listeners who have experienced a hard decision and aching heart.
