Long Way From Love
Mark Free Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is it tenderness or torture
Joy that only ends in pain
As the cold blue light of morning
Steals you from my side again
You set my senses burning
And the embers linger on
A wildfire of yearning
In the ashes of the dawn
Your restless soul keeps running free
It′s like asking the wind to belong to me
You won't let me go, but you′d better know
We're a long way from love
A long way from forever
Tomorrow waits for us
Baby, it's now or never
Half a heart′s not good enough
We′re long, long way from love
"I'll come back soon", you tell me
With the fading of the stars
When these arms ache to hold you
Time′s a prison without bars
I collect my stolen moments
All the bitter with the sweet
How you let your touch torment me
Walk away and watch me bleed
I'm living on a desperate prayer
Someday you′ll turn, around and learn to care
We can make it through, but it's up to you
We′re a long way from love
A long way from forever
Tomorrow waits for us
Baby, it's now or never
Half a heart's not good enough
We′re long, long way from love
Casting off the night′s disguises
Heaven ends when day begins
Playing hit and run with heartache
It's a game nobody wins
We′re a long way from love
A long way from forever
Tomorrow waits for us
Baby, it's now or never

Half a heart′s not good enough
We're long, long way from love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mark Free's song Long Way From Love are about the struggle of a person who is deeply in love with someone who cannot reciprocate the same level of commitment. The singer is questioning whether the intense feelings he is experiencing are worth the pain and suffering that come with loving someone who remains distant and unreachable. The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics by suggesting that the singer cannot tell whether the emotion he is feeling is tenderness or torture. He knows that his love will only end in pain but cannot help being captivated by his lover's beauty.

The lyrics describe the singer's hopeless attempts to hold on to his lover, even though deep down, he knows that they are a long way from love. He is desperate to make the relationship work but feels that his efforts are in vain. The lyrics also touch on the idea of time being a prison without bars. The singer dreads the cold blue light of morning when his lover will leave him again, and he is left alone with his yearning for something more significant. He knows that he is living on a desperate prayer, and the only way the relationship will work is if his lover reciprocates his feelings.

Overall, Long Way From Love is a heartbreaking song that captures the struggle of loving someone who can never love you back. The lyrics are full of emotional depth, and the message is one that many can relate to.

A Stranger Among Us

 Another night is falling
Dropping down on me like stone
Something tells me you'll be calling
"Working late, can't make it home"
The shadows seem to whisper
As the hours bleed away
She's got someone else, he's with her
You're the fool to let him stay
But my body burns with memories
A flood of fire drowning me

There's a stranger among us
Hiding in your telltale eyes
There's a stranger among us
Oh, baby, why do you keep running
If you've got nothing to deny
I can feel it in your touch
That stranger ( ...stranger)
Among us

We never talk it over
But goodbye is in the air
And every time I hold you
You're the girl who isn't there
"What you don't know won't hurt you"
Cries a quiet voice inside
We make everything but love
And dress the naked truth in lies
But my heart's prisoner of the past
Living each moment as its last

There's a stranger among us
Hiding in your telltale eyes
There's a stranger among us
Oh, baby, why do you keep running
If you've got nothing to deny
I can feel it in your touch
That stranger ( ...stranger)
Among us

When the thrill is gone
Secrets in the dark
Will his love go on
Or will he break
Will he break your heart

(Repeat Chorus)

Don't know how you did it, Robin, but you've worked with some of the best singers on the planet. James Christian is another favorite of mine. It's stunning (yet absolutely criminal) to know just how talented you can be, and still be relatively unknown in the music biz. That said, this era of music the 78-92 era (give or take) gave us very arguably, the best music on earth. And, my GOD do I miss the music of those days....and the culture that created it.
