In 1970 Fry enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, Italy, where he studied painting. It was in Rome in the summber of 1971 that he recorded his first album "Dreaming with Alice" over a three-day period with a group of session musicians.
Fry's second album, Shooting The Moon, was released in January 2008, 35 years after his debut, the 1972 psych-folk classic Dreaming With Alice, recorded in Rome, Italy. In 2000, Akarma Records bootlegged the album as a CD, with a sleeve closely resembling that of Donovan's Barabajagal. In 2006, Sunbeam Records reissued the album in both CD and gatefold vinyl with the original cover artwork. The rediscovered Dreaming With Alice has been hailed as "a defining masterpiece of psychedelic folk".
In 2011, Fry released a third album, I Lived In Trees as Mark Fry / The A. Lords, a collaboration with Dorset-based musicians The A. Lords. The album was well-received and was followed by another release on Second Language Music, South Wind, Clear Sky, in September 2014. A live album, Mark Fry Live In Japan, was recorded by Mark Fry With The Dreaming Alice Band at a series of concerts in Tokyo in 2013.
The Witch
Mark Fry Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Her cold breath on the window pane
The witch is eating water mellon
The pipe she'll try to rearrange
And I'm all alone waiting for someone
To come on home
To come on home
To come on home
To come on home
And ah the witch is coming
Right through my window
And ah the witch, the witch is coming
Right through my window
Right through my window
Right through my window
The song "The Witch" by Mark Fry is a haunting and eerie tune that paints a vivid picture of a witch creeping up to the singer's window. The first verse describes the witch looking through the window and exhaling her cold breath onto the window pane. The second verse portrays the witch eating watermelon and attempting to rearrange her pipe. The chorus repeats several times, with the singer expressing a sense of loneliness and yearning for someone to come home, all while the witch approaches closer and closer to the window.
There are many interpretations of this song, but one common theme is the idea of the supernatural and the unknown. The witch represents a force that is both fascinating and terrifying to the singer. The repetition of the chorus highlights the sense of isolation and paranoia that the singer feels, as if they are the only one in the world aware of the witch's presence.
Overall, "The Witch" is a mesmerizing and mysterious song that leaves the listener with a sense of unease and curiosity. The haunting melody and the vivid imagery of the lyrics make this song a must-listen for fans of folk and psychedelic music.

Did you just write down what you heard or do you have the Dreaming With Alice Songbook available? I’m desperate to get more lyrics. Due to the foggy mixing, I seldom hear quite what he’s saying.
