Lind began writing songs during his senior year of high-school after being inspired by bands like Rancid and Green Day. By 1995, Lind and close friend Jason Messina would form The Ducky Boys and within three years, released two albums and grew in popularity in the Boston punk scene with the help of Dropkick Murphys' front-man Ken Casey.
However, by 1999, the band fell into turmoil and soon broke up leaving Lind with no band.
Soon after The Ducky Boys' downfall, Lind teamed up with his brother Rob Lind of Blood for Blood and began writing music. Focus heavily on song-writing, the two formed the band Sinners and Saints. The band had more musicality and pop elements than The Ducky Boys, a change that gave the band a unique sound. They were offered a record contract with Victory Records for the groups future album The Sky is Falling, but chose to turn it down, a huge mistake they would later admit. The album went on to have huge success and the band grew a huge following by 2002.
Due to personal matters, Rob was unable to continue the project, and the band disbanded by the end of the year. Hoping to get back to his punk roots, Lind would form a Ducky Boy like band called Dirty Water. Re-uniting with Messina, and recruiting Andrew Mauriello on guitar and John Davidian on bass, the band would release their self-titled ep Dirty Water in 2003. Llike Sinners and Saints, the band was a major success in the Boston area.
All unreleased songs written by Lind during this period of time have been reworked and included on subsequent releases.
The Ducky Boys re-formed plus guitarist Douglas Sullivan in late 2003 and has recorded and released two albums, entitled Three Chords and the Truth and The War Back Home . Both albums were critically acclaimed and had big sales. The band has since grown in popularity and has toured with bands like Rancid, Street Dogs, and Dropkick Murphys in recent years.
During 2005, Lind set out to make his first solo album. Using leftovers songs that were not used in The War Back Home, Lind recorded the CD and released it in 2006. The album features a rock style with a band accompanying Lind in most songs.
Over the last year, Lind has wrote and demoed over 50 songs for both the new Ducky Boys album and for his next solo EP, which is tentatively titled Compulsive Fuckup. The album is expected to be more acoustic sounding and will be released independently through Lind himself in hopes of addressing a very specific and existing audience.
Mark also played bass on Boston punk band Far From Finished's debut album East Side of Nowhere and will also be appearing on the band's new album Living in the Fallout, which is due out sometime this year.
The Lonely People

But you take what you've got cuz its all you can do
I could go on with the things that I can't stand
But you've got your own problems, man
It's the same old song and the same old place
A broken mirror the same old face
You lonely people, I'm just getting through life like you
A cigarette or a bottle of booze for two
Tell a tale if it eases the pain for you
I could go on with defending where I stand
Two can play no one wins so there's nothing to gain
It's the same old song and the same old place
A broken mirror the same old face
You lonely people, I'm just getting through life like you
It's been a long time since I heard them say your name
Things are different. I don't live the same.
You probably found a new distraction in your life
It's the same old song and the same old place
A broken mirror the same old face
You lonely people, I'm just getting through life like you
The Lonely People by Mark Lind is a song that ultimately speaks to the shared feeling of isolation that comes with navigating through life. The song portrays the idea that every individual has their own set of problems and difficulties to contend with. The first verse of the song speaks to the human desire to change the truth or facts of one's life. Every person wants to have or rewrite something that is true, but the reality is that we can only take what we have in life as it is. The singer acknowledges that while he could choose to dwell on the things he can't stand, he recognizes that everyone has their own struggle to deal with, so he chooses to just carry on.
The chorus of the song highlights the common theme of feeling trapped or stuck in the same situation; it's the same old song and the same old place. The singer describes those he addresses as "lonely people," which speaks to the shared feeling of alienation that comes with the human experience. The line "a broken mirror, the same old face" can be interpreted as a metaphor for the repetitive cycle people often find themselves in, as if we are looking at our own reflection, with nothing seemingly changing.
In the second verse, the singer speaks about the coping mechanisms people use to deal with their problems, be it smoking or drinking, or even just telling stories to make sense of things. The singer highlights that while they could choose to defend their own position, it's ultimately a futile effort because two people can play but no one wins. The final verse speaks to the idea of evolution, how things change and people move on. Everyone has their own unique journey, and while we may all be "getting through life," we all do so with our own individual struggles.
