Lullaby, music box
Oh, baby please don't cry
Let's let mama sleep tonight
You've only been home one day
You don't even know your name
Tiny hand on my cheek
You;re a miracle to me
Cradled in this rocking chair
I hold all my hopes and dreams,
Every single answered prayer
In my arms
Wish I could hold you forever
In my arms
I will give you shelter
Still I know I can't always be there
To protect you from this great big old world
But I swear this much is true
There'll always be a place for you, in my arms
As I watch you take each breath
Oh, it scares me to death
To know you're counting on me
To be the daddy that you need
Wounded knees, broken hearts
Learning how to drive a car
When it's time for your first date
Will I know just what to say
And when you find that one true love
I'll put on my best smile
And I'll try to hide my tears
As I walk you down the aisle
In my arms
Wish I could hold you forever
In my arms
I will give you shelter
Still I know I can't always be there
To protect you from this great big old world
But I swear this much is true
There'll always be a place for you, in my arms
Oh, this promise I will keep
As you finally fall asleep, in my arms
Mark Wills's song "In My Arms" captures the emotions and struggles of a new father, holding his newborn baby at three a.m when the world is still and quiet. The lyrics paint a picture of a father's deep love and profound sense of responsibility to protect and take care of his child. The lullaby and music box in the background are symbolic of the safety and comfort he wishes to provide. The singer acknowledges that from that day on, life will never be the same again, and while he can't always be there, he promises that his child will always have a place in his arms.
The song highlights the mix of emotions a new father goes through in such a situation, from wonder and awe to fear and anxiety. The lyrics show the father's uncertainty about how to be a good parent, expressed through the question of whether he will know what to say when his child goes on their first date or gets hurt.
Overall, the song celebrates the love between a parent and child and the commitment a father makes to care for his child. It portrays a heartwarming and emotional moment shared between father and child, with the father promising always to be there for his child.

This is the song I sang to my oldest every night for years to get her to sleep. She is a teen now, but when we hear it, she hugs me. We will definitely dance to it at her wedding!
