Martin Garrix Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, I was hiding from the pain
But now I'm tired of running
Felt like the gods forgot my name

In my head, I didn't know what I was looking for
We got so close to something beautiful
And now I'm never gonna let you go, you go, you go
Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long
Hey, I found a way
Back to the streets where they know my name
You know I've been all around, all around
But you were always on my mind, on my mind
Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long, yeah

Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long, yeah

Oh, I was falling from my high
And I came down to nothing
Feels like the gods left me behind

In my head, I didn't know what I was looking for
We got so close to something beautiful
And now I'm never gonna let you go, you go, you go

Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long
Hey, I found a way
Back to the streets where they know my name
You know I've been all around, all around
But you were always on my mind, on my mind
Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long, yeah

Been so long, been so long
Been so long, long, long
Been so long, been so long
Been so long, long, long

Home, take me home
Back to my roots, yeah, it's been so long, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Home," written and performed by Martin Garrix featuring Bonn, is about wanting to return to one's home and roots after experiencing pain and disappointment. The opening lines suggest the singer has been hiding from pain, but now feels tired of running away from it. The next lines reveal that the singer feels abandoned by the gods and forgotten since they do not hear their prayers.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the desire to go back home and to return to one's roots - to where they originally came from. The singer expresses the longing for familiarity and a place where they are known and recognized. The lyrics evoke a sense of nostalgia – the singer has been away from home for so long, they long to be back there, and the place seems to hold significance to the singer. They've visited many places, but nothing seems to measure up to home.

The verses highlight the frustration of not having a clear path to follow, but still ending up closer to something beautiful. This pair of lines seemingly talks about the singer's constant search and how they've been searching for something but didn't know what it was until they could feel it. They've come close to an epiphany, something beautiful they've been searching for. Nonetheless, the singer is clear and steadfast that they'll never let go of what they've found. It's an emotional track that encapsulates the feeling of being lost and not knowing where we belong, coupled with the warmth of remembering where we came from.

This is incredible. Bonn was also on Avicii's album. Great to hear him progress in to this.

Idk why masterpieces like these never get the recognition as much as they should get

I was just about to comment that this song is arguably the most underrated one of Garrix🙌🏾💯

@yeahboyyyy

That guitar, the depth of the sound, it sounds so full, the energy, the synth is so unique, the drop, Bonn's voice, the lyrics, and the melody! I don't know any other song that matches the energy of this one. Man I wish he broke down how he made this song. I never get tired of listening to this.

@itsCynos

Wise words! Couldn't agree more.
