yes malarkey
the men haven't eaten in days sir
yes malarkey
Capt. I don't think you fully understand, I said the men haven't eaten in DAYS now
I heard you Malarkey, Thank You.
Capt. you've gone quite mad, I'm Telling you for the last time, the men haven't eaten for DAYS
WELL FORCE THEM, you've plenty of men haven't you?
plenty of what... sir?!
Men Sir!!!
WHAT?!
MEN SIR!!
WHAAT?!
Men
It's great to be on a ship with men, and sail across the sea oh, we don't know where'll we'll land or when, it's great to be with men, (repeat)
'Cause men can stink, and no one seems to care-o,
We'll throw the dishes in the sink, and clog the drains with Harold/ Hair-O (and clog the drain with Harold/Hair-O)
Men, Men, Men, it's a ship all filled with men,
So batton down the Ladies room, there's no one here but men
There's Men Above,
There's Men below,
There's Men down in the Galley, There's Butch,
and Spike,
and Buzz,
and Biff,
and one guy we call Sally, (and one guy we call Sally)
Men, Men, Men, it's a ship all filled with men,
you'll never have to lift the seat, there's no one here but men
, men
We're Men and Friends
Until the end, and none of us are sissies
At Night we sleep in separate beds,
and blow each other kissies (and blow each other kissies)
Men, Men, Men It's a ship all filled with men, so, throw your rubbers overboard, there's no one here but Men
AAAAHHHHHMEEEENNNN
The Martin Mull song "Men" is a satirical take on the male experience, highlighting the camaraderie, hygiene habits, and attitudes surrounding masculinity. The lyrics paint a picture of a ship filled with men who are oblivious to the lack of women on board and revel in their all-male surroundings. The opening dialogue sets the tone, with a captain and the character Malarkey discussing the lack of food being given to the men. The captain's indifference and callousness towards their hunger is played for laughs, highlighting the absurdity of the situation.
The chorus, "It's great to be on a ship with men, and sail across the sea oh, we don't know where'll we'll land or when, it's great to be with men," embodies the sentiments of the song, with its catchy melody and ironic appeal. The lyrics that follow satirize male hygiene, with lines like "Men can stink, and no one seems to care-o" showcasing the lax approach towards cleanliness. The verse about the men sleeping in separate beds and "blowing each other kissies" pokes fun at the social constructs surrounding male expressions of affection.
The song is meant to be taken humorously and satirically, with the exaggerated depiction of men and their behavior. Still, it provides an insightful commentary on the male experience and the attitudes and behaviors that shape it.
