Spanish Eyes
Martino Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Blue Spanish eyes
Teardrops are falling from your Spanish eyes
Please, please don't cry
This is just adios and not goodbye

Soon I'll return
Bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si, si"
Say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me

Blue Spanish eyes
Prettiest eyes in all of Mexico
True Spanish eyes
Please smile at me once more before I go

Soon I'll return
Bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si, si"

Say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me
You and your Spanish eyes will wait for me

Overall Meaning

The song "Spanish Eyes" by Al Martino is a classic love song about a man saying goodbye to his lover with blue Spanish eyes. The song is full of emotion, including tears, love, and longing. The opening line, "blue Spanish eyes," sets the tone for the song, which speaks of a woman's beauty and the sorrow that comes with separation.

In the first verse, the singer pleads with his lover not to cry and assures her that it is not goodbye but only "adios." He promises to return soon and bring her all the love her heart can hold. The chorus repeats the plea for her to wait for him, and the second verse speaks of her beauty, praising her as having the "prettiest eyes in all of Mexico." He asks her to smile one last time before he leaves, promising to return and asking her to wait for him.

"Spanish Eyes" is a beautifully written and romantic song that captures the essence of love and longing. It has been covered by many artists over the years, including Engelbert Humperdinck, Elvis Presley, and Julio Iglesias.

I would not place Martino anywhere but AHEAD of the
Italian heritage vocalists you mentioned, especially Sinatra, who was a much better actor than singer. You left out his greatest rivals, Jerry Vale and
Vic Damone! I rank them as equals. And last but not least, Mario Lanza!...who was actually an opera
singer who also sang
pop songs. He wasn't
a crooner like the others, but his powerful tenor voice was second to none.
He had no greater rival than Franco Bonisolli. Google his aria from Rigoletto by
Giuseppe Verdi on the you tube.
Peace to an obvious
fellow connoisseur of
great music.

I am 93 my wife 91 some years ago we were traveling with friends. We stopped at a diner and one friend put Spanish eyes on the. Jukebox. Though we had never heard of Al Martino or Spanish. Eyes it soon became out favorite tune to dance to. Some time after the man who wrote this song Eddie Snyder moved into the house next to us. For 12 years both Eddie and Spanish Eyes were our favorites. Dancing now is a little harder now but when we hear it played we try to dance again. One of the most beautiful songs ever written . Thank you Eddie!

@@tomtonge4237 but you're here listening and commenting which makes you pretty sad, at least own your tastes in music instead of making shitty comments to try to make yourself sound more with it, more like the younger generation which you clearly aren't a part of or you'd realise nobody cares what you like or dislike because it's more important to be yourself. Enjoy or more likely go find some other golden oldie to listen to and comment negatively to prop up your own ego.
