The above scripture mentions variance , emulation, wrath and strife, God also hates pride. As the Holy Spirit leads me i will break it down for you. Variance is defined as contention or strife which I believe is cause by disagreements, when things don't go how one team wants it to go we often see players fight against other teams, some even resort to cheating which is also unfair, this in turn leads to rivalry which involves both teams having some form of strife between them and this leads to variance. Variance is very common is professional sports and even in Sports in general. Emulations is defined as trying to become equal or to rise above another , this sin is also a common practice in Sports, even Satan when he rebelled against God had said that he would rise above God and be like God. Isaiah 14-13-14 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. When one sport player competes he or she is always trying to rise above the opponent to become the best, this is what God hates as Satan had the same mentality in that he told himself he would become like the most high and rise above him, this is the sin of emulation. Today many who compete in sport try to boost their self esteem by making themselves become the best, thus, because of pride they want to become like the most high in their field so that everyone would revere then and treat them like a God which is also the sin of idolatry and covetousness. The Scripture I quoted also mentioned wrath and strife and we all know that these are also the fruits of sports.Sports is also involved with money making for greed. One doesn't need to become part of sports/sin in order to come out of poverty in the same way one doesn't need to become a prostitute to get out of poverty. God can provide for us no matter the circumstance without us having to join in the sin. Another excuse some use to justify sports is that it helps to unite and it helps take away depression and it brings peace. But this I say is only a false way to bring peace because usually as the game is over we go back to fighting one another and we go back to the sin of drunkedness and then war and depression starts again because the foundation was built on sand rather than on the Rock. If you want to be truly free you must build on the Rock Jesus Christ rather than on the sand, ask Jesus to free you from depression, strife and fighting and he will, you don't need to join in the sin of sport to get a false relief from depression. Ask God for the endurance to overcome the temptation to watch sport. Jesus bless you.

ya know, I was taught that Christ and Christ alone was the only one with the right and the power to judge a person. But as I got older I realized the same people who taught me that, never practiced what they preached. And it's those people like that who made me turn away from Christianity. Organized religion is a plague. Believing in god is one thing, but believing that one has the right to tell everyone else how to live or what's right and what's wrong just because that's their interpretation of the bible is just plain ignorance. it's no different than radical muslims who believe that one should convert to islam or die. the man so many Christians hold dear and call their savior is the same man who loved the outcasts of society, and treated with dignity and respect the ones deemed unworthy by their fellow man; the prostitutes, the homeless, the poor, the lost, the sinners. I don't imagine he'd appreciate billions of people invoking his name as they pass judgment on people they don't even know. Christianity as a religion means to be "Christ like" to try and follow the example of Jesus Christ yet very few of those who claim to be Christians do that. instead they pick and choose what parts of the bible they really believe in and say to hell with the rest. rather than focus on their own sins and their own salvation they sit back and condemn everyone else for doing things THEY don't agree with. they claim to believe Christ is their savior but they're a little too wrapped up in the old testament. despite all the wrath and harsh judgment from God in the old testament, Jesus is the one we're all supposedly going to answer to on judgment day and given his actions in the Bible, I don't think he has the same attitude as his old man. after all, a child's ways are often very different than the ways of their fathers. Christ had one thing his father didn't, and that was humility. oddly enough that's also the one thing his followers seem to lack as well. (go figure, god really made man in his image I guess.) there are so many different religious/spiritual beliefs and the majority of them have the same core principle's but man has corrupted them. everybody's so busy fighting over who's right/who's wrong, not just criticizing other religions but other denominations of their own religion. I think Christ is going to be more concerned with our souls and what is truly in our hearts. Not what music we listen to or what sports we play. People like you are what is wrong with all religions. Zealots who think the trivial, mundane things in life are what make a person good or bad and who mistakenly believe the hate in their hearts is righteousness and purity.
