Mary Spender Lyrics

Coffee at Primrose
Whilst calling you back home
The other side of the pond tempts me
Why would I leave this city
She knows me
In you I see myself and time
Everything you do is haunting
Everything you do is a warning
Everything you do is hurting me
City set me free.
Up in my garret I sit out on the roof
Look out on Bristol
I see the truth
We have history
She's cursed and loved me
How could I leave the cliffside
This view.
In you I see myself and time
Loyalties will never die
Everything you do is haunting
Everything you do is a warning
Everything you do is hurting me
Everything you do is haunting
Everything you do is a warning
Everything you do is hurting me
City set me free.
In you, I see myself and time
Loyalties will never die
Love is worth, all the pain
Will you forgive and give again.
Ohh.
Everything you do is haunting
Everything you do is a warning
Everything you do is hurting me
Oh,everything you do is haunting
Everything you do is a warning
Everything you do is hurting me
City set me free.
The lyrics of Mary Spender's song "Primrose" are open to interpretation, but it seems to be about the internal struggle of leaving a place you love and the people within it, even when you feel like you need to move on. The first verse sets the scene with the singer walking alone through an archway on their way to get coffee at Primrose, while thinking about someone they need to call back home. They're considering leaving the city they're in for the other side of the pond (presumably the United States), but the city knows them too well and it's hard to leave behind something familiar. Then, in the second verse, the imagery changes to the singer sitting on their rooftop thinking about what to do. The view of Bristol from this rooftop gives them a sense of history and love, but also a curse. They can't leave the cliffside because it's too beautiful.
The chorus repeats and emphasizes how everything the person they're thinking of does (presumably the person they need to call back home) is haunting, warning, and hurting them. But despite this pain, the singer knows that their loyalty will never die. They then ask if their love is worth the pain, and if they can forgive and give again. The song ends with the repeated plea to set the city (and the singer) free.

Such an underrated artist. Her voice is worth millions
@duguy182
True.
@hybro8
She has a great voice but her singing is massively over embellished which lets her down. That and the low tone she uses a lot is really unattractive. If she had some decent lyrics in front of her, cut out 95% of her embellishments and ditched the low tone voice, sheβd be worth millions.
