From an early age, Matt Dusk wanted to become a performer. At the age of seven, he was accepted into the St. Michael's Choir School, where he remained for eleven years. Originally Dusk performed opera and classical music but after hearing a couple Tony Bennett and Sarah Vaughan records at the age of 17 he began to change his musical style and direction. In 1998 he won the top spot in the Canadian National Exhibition Rising Star Competition, beating out 654 contestants. However, Dusk was on a path to take over the family business, and in 1998 went to Toronto's York University to study economics. After spending a year in the economics department, Dusk could not forget his passion for music and in 1999 changed programs to study for a BFA in music, where his emphasis was squarely on jazz and popular music. He studied jazz theory with John Gittins, jazz vocal with Bob Fenton, and attended a masterclass with Oscar Peterson. Dusk was also awarded the university’s Oscar Peterson Scholarship and in 2002 graduated with an honors degree in music.
Before Dusk had secured a major record deal, he recorded four independent CDs (The Way It Is being the only one re-released thusfar) and many of his songs became popular on MP3 websites. In March 2003 he signed a major record deal with Decca Records. In 2004 Dusk was invited to the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas to perform as in-house entertainer throughout the filming of the hit reality TV show on FOX, "The Casino".
His debut album "Two Shots" was released on June 5, 2004. The album produced the hit single, "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad" which was written by Bono and The Edge from the Irish rock band U2. Dusk followed up his debut album with a holiday album entitled "Peace On Earth" which was released November 30, 2005.
In January 2006 Dusk travelled to Los Angeles to record his next album Back In Town at Capitol Records fabled Studio A. Here, Dusk recorded with a 58 piece orchestra. Back In Town features a mix of jazz standards and originals, and was released in June of 2006. As a promotion, Matt included personally signed liner notes with every pre-ordered copy of this album.
Get Me To The Church On Time
Matt Dusk Lyrics

A few more hours, before I tie the knot
There'll be drinks and girls all over the town
And I gotta track'em down
In just a few more hours.
I'm gettin' married in the morning
Ding-dong the bells are gonna chime
But get me to the church on time.
I got to get there in the morning
Spruced up and lookin' in my prime
Girls come and kiss me, say that you'll miss me
But get me to the church on time.
If I am dancing roll up the floor
If I am whistling, right out the door
I got to get there in the morning
Ding-ding-dong they're gonna chime
Kick up a rompass, don't lose your compass
Get me to the church, get me to the church
Pete's sake get me to the church on time.
If I'm flyin', then shoot me down
If I'm wooin', get the girl right out of town
I got to get there in the morning
Ding-ding-dong they're gonna chime
Punch me and jail me, stamp me and mail me
Get me to the church, get me to the church
Pete's sake get me to the church on time
On time, on time, on time.
The lyrics to Matt Dusk's song "Get Me to the Church on Time" speak to the anticipation and excitement leading up to a wedding day. The singer has only a few more hours before he gets married, and he's determined to make the most of his remaining time as a single man. The lyrics describe a wild night out on the town, chasing after drinks and girls, with the underlying sense of urgency to make it to the church on time. The chorus emphasizes this urgency with the ringing bells and the plea to "get me to the church on time."
There's a sense of frenetic energy in the verses, with the singer insisting that he needs to be at the church in the morning, looking his best and ready to be wed. He expresses his desire to have the girls come and kiss him and tell him they'll miss him, but the priority is to make it to the church on time. The bridge emphasizes the wildness of the night, with the singer willing to be punched, jailed, and stamped just to make it to the church. The repetition of "get me to the church on time" in the chorus only reinforces this.
Overall, the lyrics to "Get Me to the Church on Time" capture the excitement and anticipation of getting married, with a dash of humor and wildness thrown in. The song is a celebration of the single life that's about to end, with a clear message to make the most of it before the final walk down the aisle.
