"Baby make me proud
You've got such a pretty face
But such a dirty mouth"
But how come when I tell you
What's on my mind like men do
I'm called crazy?
Crazy
This is not a love song
This is not a sing along
But ladies, are you with me?
I know that you're with me
Add a little sugar, they say
Be a little sweeter, they say
Gotta give and take, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
Be a little proper, they say
Speak a little softer, they say
Gotta be a lady, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
(My way, my way, my way)
This time it's my way, ah, my way
(My way, my way, my way)
This time it's my way, ah, my way
I'll do me
You do you
I don't need nobody's permission
I won't back down
Win or lose
Oh yeah, one and only limited edition (yeah)
This is not a love song
This is not a sing along
But ladies, are you with me?
I know that you're with me
Add a little sugar, they say
Be a little sweeter, they say
Gotta give and take, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
Be a little proper, they say
Speak a little softer, they say
Gotta be a lady, but I say
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
This time it's my way, ah, my way
In "Lost My Way," Max takes on the theme of empowerment and self-expression, particularly for women. The first verse reflects a conflict between societal expectations and personal authenticity. Max references his mother's words, highlighting the contradictory messaging he receives—being told to make his mother proud while being criticized for speaking his mind openly. The repetition of "crazy" suggests the frustration and dismissive attitude faced when challenging societal norms.
The chorus serves as a rallying call, emphasizing that the song is not about romantic love but about unity among women. Max invites the ladies in the audience to join him in rejecting societal expectations and embracing their individuality. The lyrics encourage women to stand up against the pressure of conforming to traditional standards by sacrificing their own desires and opinions.
The second verse reinforces the message of self-assertion. Max challenges the notion that women should add sweetness and abide by societal expectations of proper etiquette and behavior. He urges women to reclaim their voice and agency, emphasizing that it is time to assert themselves and prioritize their own needs and desires.
The repetition of "my way" throughout the song reinforces the central message of self-determination and empowerment. It serves as a mantra to prioritize personal authenticity and disregard the pressures to conform. The final lines of the song express a resolute determination to be oneself without seeking permission or validation. Max asserts that he won't back down, highlighting that staying true to oneself is more important than winning or losing, and that true uniqueness is a rarity.
Overall, "Lost My Way" is a call for women to break free from societal expectations, embrace their individuality, and assert themselves without fear or apology. It encourages women to prioritize their own desires and opinions, while rejecting the pressures to conform and be labeled as "crazy." The song urges unity among women, emphasizing the need to support each other in reclaiming their voices and asserting themselves on their own terms.
