You are always gonna be my love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
You will always
be inside my heart
I hope that I have a place
in your heart too
Now and forever
you are still the one
You are always gonna be my love
I'll remember to love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
Now and forever ...
The lyrics to May J.'s song "First Love" depict a bittersweet reminiscence of a past romantic relationship. The first verse sets the scene with the last kiss shared, describing it as having the flavor of tobacco, which symbolizes a bitter and nostalgic taste. The singer reflects on the painful and melancholic scent of this memory. Wondering where their former lover may be at this moment and who they might be thinking of, the singer acknowledges that this person will always hold a significant place in their heart.
The chorus emphasizes the enduring impact of this first love. The singer affirms that even if they were to fall in love with someone else in the future, they will never forget the lessons and love their first love taught them. The second verse reflects on a pause in time, where the singer feels a desire for things not to be forgotten, as memories flood back. They imagine themselves shedding tears, still thinking of their former lover at this very moment.
The lyrics convey a sense of longing, acknowledging the deep connection and lasting impression that first love leaves on the heart. It explores the emotions of sadness and nostalgia, while also recognizing the potential for new beginnings and growth in future love. Ultimately, "First Love" encapsulates the profound impact and treasured memories associated with that significant first experience of love.
