Their first recording came as a demo in 2006. Soon after they finished their first demo, the band began to venture out on the road, including a western US tour in 2007 and a northwestern US tour in 2009.
In the summer of 2009 they released their first album called “Things Get Worse Before they Get Better.” This 8 song EP was a self released effort available on vinyl, digital download, and on CD.
Like many bands, Maya Over Eyes has had its fair share of line-up changes. Since originally forming as a 6 piece with two vocalists, to doing a tour as a three piece, the band has managed to persevere. First originating from one city, they now have members from all over the SF Bay area.
Soon after the release of their first record, Maya Over Eyes took a short moment to solidify a fresh new line-up change in late 2009. The band is now dedicated to pushing themselves forward as much as possible, with nothing holding them back.

Callas bleeding at the palm of my hands
I've always had to fight for a chance
Narrow minds tryna humble me down
Came from the bottom now I'm fit for the crown
I will never
Let them break you down
Your blood
Till I'm dead and gone
Come around
You will drown
Still waters run deep
In the valley where the sharks infest
Who can I trust
This I must protect
With my life
Blood of my blood
Flesh of my flesh
The song "Sangrando" by Maya Over Eyes speaks about the struggles of fighting for one's place in society. The opening lines, "Fuck, Callas bleeding at the palm of my hands, I've always had to fight for a chance" suggest that the singer is tired of fighting for their place in the world, but they continue to persevere. The next few lines, "Narrow minds tryna humble me down, came from the bottom now, I'm fit for the crown" depict how people with a limited mindset try to bring the singer down, but the singer is now at a place where they belong.
The lines, "I will never let them break you down, your blood my flesh, till I'm dead and gone" emphasize the singer's determination to protect someone who is important to them, even if it means sacrificing their own life. The singer is fiercely loyal and protective of this person, who is likely a family member. Lines "Come around, you will drown, still waters run deep" suggests that whilst the singer is protective of their loved ones, they may also be somewhat suspicious of outsiders. The final lines, "In the valley where the sharks infest, who can I trust, this I must protect, with my life, blood of my blood, flesh of my flesh" aim to protect oneself and loved ones from potential danger.
