In "Hunger," McCrae expresses his inner turmoil as he grapples with the love he shares with someone he cares deeply for. The song begins with the idea of casting shadows and creatures made with a flashlight on the ceiling in the dark of nighttime. This imagery is perhaps emblematic of the feelings that the two of them share; something which exists only in the dark and cannot be seen in the light of day.
