McEnroe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Me construí
Un refugio de hielo
Después de ti,
Error tras error,
Para volver al centro
Después de ti
Por el camino recto...
De recordar...
De no olvidar...
De recordar...
De no olvidar...
Escuché Coney Island
Con tus manos por mi espalda
Y sentí que el fin del mundo
No era una idea tan mala
Y que las noches duraban
Lo mismo que las mañanas
Al escuchar Coney Island
Con tus manos por mi espalda
Y saber que la tristeza
Tiene su parte de belleza
Y que las noches duraban
Lo mismo que las mañanas...
Despues de ti me construí
Un refugio de invierno...
In McEnroe's song "Coney Island," the lyrics describe the aftermath of a breakup and the journey to healing and finding solace. The first verse speaks to the singer's sense of futility and mistakes made in trying to return to a sense of normalcy after a significant relationship ends. Despite attempting to find their way back to the center, the singer feels lost and unsure of how to move forward.
The second verse describes the singer's discovery of the transformative power of music and the tenderness of physical touch. They listen to the song "Coney Island" with their former partner's hands on their back, and in that moment, they realize that perhaps the end of the world wouldn't be so bad if they could experience it with this person. The lyrics express the idea that even in the midst of sadness and heartbreak, there is beauty to be found and embraced.
The repetition of the lines "De recordar... de no olvidar..." (to remember... to not forget...) underscores the idea of learning from past experiences and accepting them as a part of one's journey. The final line, "Después de ti me construí un refugio de invierno" (after you, I built myself a winter refuge), brings the narrative full circle, with the singer having found a way to move on and rebuild themselves after the emotional devastation of the breakup.
