Lette (17 years old) sings and plays the piano. Singing from early childhood, she started taking piano lessons at 7 and began writing her own songs at 11. At the moment, Lette is finishing her last year of secondary school.
Laura (20 years old) also sings, and plays the violin. She says the two years she followed piano lessons also helps a lot when she's writing songs. She's been playing the violin for over 9 years. Like her sister, she writes songs, as well as lyrics. At the moment, Laura is a third-year medical student.
This year, they released their debut album. It contains 10 original songs, written by the two sisters, together and apart. One of them has Dutch lyrics, the rest's in English. It is for sale on their website www.meandmysister.nl !
Birds
Me & my Sister Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You cry in your sleep, too tired to wonder
Whatever happened to peace and love
And the promised help from above
Craving silence, surrounded by whispers
The middle of summer like the coldest of winters
Whatever you do, it's a hit and miss
Lift your head, you're one of the chosen few
See it all instead, from a bird's eye view
A bird's eye view
A choice made for you, you can just uncheck it
If it's all black or white, you can make it chequered
Whatever your call, it's for no one to miss
So what about something like this
Lift your head, you're one of the chosen few
See it all instead, from a bird's eye view
A bird's eye view
See it all instead, the world's bright blue from a bird's eye view
A bird's eye view
The lyrics to Me & My Sister's song "Birds" are a poignant commentary on the state of the world and the struggles that many people face in trying to find peace and happiness amidst chaos and disappointment. The opening lines, "Step on the cracks and the world goes under / You cry in your sleep, too tired to wonder" paint a picture of someone who feels overwhelmed and powerless, unable to make sense of the challenges they are facing. The lines "Whatever happened to peace and love / And the promised help from above" highlight the singer's disillusionment and frustration, as they search for answers that seem out of reach.
The second verse continues this theme of feeling trapped and alone, with the lines "Craving silence, surrounded by whispers / The middle of summer like the coldest of winters" describing a sense of isolation and disconnection from the world around them. The lines "Whatever you do, it's a hit and miss / So what about something like this" suggest a willingness to try something new, to explore a different perspective or approach that might offer a way out of this cycle of despair.
The chorus, "Lift your head, you're one of the chosen few / See it all instead, from a bird's eye view / A bird's eye view" offers a glimmer of hope, inviting the listener to rise above their circumstances and look at things from a different vantage point. The idea of seeing things from a bird's eye view implies a sense of detachment and objectivity, allowing the singer to gain a new perspective and perhaps find some peace and clarity in the midst of their struggles.

Omg it’s been 10 years since I uploaded this! This video was a few years old before then. I wanted to try out how YouTube worked and uploaded this old video. Didn’t think it would have been so loved! Thank you! One of the birds is still with my sister. She begged to take her when she got married and moved into their first home. I visit when I go see my nephew. I’m glad to share my happy memory with everyone. I would have had way more but an ex of mine stole my camera with all the videos of them growing up. So I’m so glad I posted this video on a random whim. Otherwise I would have never gotten to enjoy it again. ❤️

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that, my Mom left my biological father like a year after I was born, so a lot of her old pictures are still with him in the same way. Sucks how that happens. Luckily you always have your memories though!
