Raised in the North Philadelphia section of the city with his sister and inspired by his mother and father; who died when he was five, Meek Mill began taking the rap game seriously at the age of 12 after losing a street battle to neighboring rappers. He says his desire to rap grew after watching his uncle Philly hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Nell. While hanging out in his neighborhood, Meek met three guys and formed the group, โBloodHoundz,โ which consisted of Mel Love, Dat Nigga Leel and Young Pooh. The group lasted for fives years and Meek ventured on his own.
With a solo career in tow, Meek became one of Philadelphiaโs hottest underground rap artists on an independent label. In 2007, Meek debuted his Flamerz series, which stands for hottest songs and released his first mix tape, Flamerz 1, which featured the hit single, โIn My Bag.โ
In 2008, Meek debuted the highly anticipated Flamerz 2 โโHottest In Da City,โ which showcased more of his lyrical abilities with the singles, โSo Fly,โ โProlli,โ and โHottest In Da City.โ Upon release of Flamerz 2, it caught the attention of founder and President of 215Aphillyated Records, Charlie Mack. Mack was immediately impressed with Meek that he signed him to his management company. During the same year, he met the founder and owner of Grand Hustle, TI. TI was impressed with his lyrical ability that he offered him an opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to meet with him along with the Warner Brothers Records, within one week both record companies offered him a deal. Meek was overwhelmed by the offers; however, he felt collaborating with TI was an opportunity of a lifetime and chose his label. An ecstatic Meek was on top of the world; a record deal and the chance to work with one of hip hopโs greatest rappers and then a set back occurred. He was arrested, charged with a crime and order to serve seven months in jail.
Meek pre-released three singles from his third mix tape Flamerz 2.5 โ โThe Previewโ in August of 2009, which featured the chart topping hits, โMake โEm Say,โ โImma Da Ish,โ featuring Ms. Jade and โStarting Something,โ in honor Michael Jackson. Within the first two weeks of its release, Clear Channel added it to their play list, which is an anomaly in the music business. In June of 2009, Meek began immediately working on his freshman album โ Flamerz 3, โHottest In America โ Gangster Grill Edition,โ hosted by DJ Drama and featuring the songs: โBaby Girl,โ โHottest In America,โ and โIโm Killinem.โ The highly anticipated cd is set to be released on January 19, 2010. Despite his stint in jail, Meekโs fans remained loyal, he currently boasts of 13 million hits on My Space and 20 million viewers on You Tube. Meek Mill has recently just signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group.
In the future, Meek plans to establish the Meek Mill Foundation, which will mentor young males between the ages of 12-24 on the importance of โEducation over Incarceration.โ He gives a shoutout to the next artist coming up named shizz.. He also plans to collaborate with United Community Action Network and the Lifers of Graterford Prison to address the violence plaguing our cities. 2015 - BEEF WITH DRAKE
In July 2015 Meek attempted to air out Drake for "not writing his own raps" via popular social media site Twitter. These tweets resulted in a huge reaction from the hip hop community, however, the stunt went awry when Drake (Aubrey Graham) decided to respond. Drake released the diss track "Charged Up" during an Apple Music stream and an immediate response from Meek was demanded. Funkmaster Flex announced he would debut Meek's response live on Hot97. However, the track never came. After four days there was still no sign of a response from Meek, prompting Drake to release a second diss track "Back To Back." The response to this was huge and a harsh blow to Meek's career. Two days later Meek finally released "Wanna Know." This track received largely negative reviews and it was clear to most that Drake had won the beef. On August 2nd at the annual OVOfest, Drake truly roasted Meek Mill; performing "Back To Back" in front of various memes poking fun at Meek to a raucous Toronto crowd. Many fans believed this to be the nail in the coffin spelling the end for Meek's career.

Meek Mill Lyrics

I fell in love with the streets
Yeah I was 16 (youngin)
Grinding like Clipse, tryna get cream
(let's get it) a little nigga in the field
Was doing big things
Big hammers, big work, and had a big team
We had it in green yeah we was dirty
Narcs tryna sweep the strip clean
Plus we had that white girl, you know
That Christine
Aculera, that should dare her
Make a rich fiend go broke tryna fix dreams
Watching niggas cook the coke it
Looked like whipped cream
And I was tryna get cake (I was hungry)
My old head would tell me just wait
But I was crooked, tryna get straight
The hundreds with the big face
The money made me feel great
Like Tony the Tiger, when he get flakes
Talking the frosted ones
My heart was so cold had to defrost my lungs
Getting high
Was paranoid and going hard with guns
Ready to squeeze on any nigga with ease
Nightmares of being murdered I believed
How the judge gon blame me
Cause when them niggas come to kill
Me nobody gon save me
Label me a felon โfore you
Label me as telling
Upstate jail and tuna soup and getting melon
Tell em
Was raining yesterday but now it's hailing
It's death up in the air, you can smell it
Man they got the reaper round the
Corner tryna catch a body
The hungry youngins up the street
They tryna catch somebody
Slipping, they got their smith and
They gon stretch some bodies
If they don't get paid
Somebody gon get sprayed
And one love to my niggas in the twist cage
No commissary chow without the lid tray
Guard spit in it
But you can feel your rib cage
Touch it so you're like fuck
I got to live today
You niggas fucking with them hoes
I'm fucking with them Benjis
I be cutting up them O's
Fucking with that stove
That shit you made last week
I fucked it up on clothes
Spend half of that on Prada and
The other half on dros
Woah! (woah Meek Milly)
I said nigga do you, Imma do me
That haze it got him in the zone like a 23
Them niggas need a smoke, we got that oohwee
Purp by the pound, ounces of the sour D
We 32'd the Glizzy's, compact to max
Sliding through they hood, tinted down
Back to back looking for these pussys
Now where these faggots at skis, dickies
And hoodies show where they trapping at
Murder murder graveyard
Funeral service for em
Embalming fluid, obituary and hearses for em
That choppa do him
His mama mourning and hurting for him
We collect bosses, they flunkies
Whoever working for em
Yeah, Meek motherfucking Milly
You niggas know what it is
BH we straight to the motherfucking
Day that I die nigga free my nigga lil
GT franchise we got the
Game on motherfucking lock
And if you think you fucking with me nigga
Hit that stu' hard
And get your fucking game right
Plain and simple boss
In "Boss Freestyle," Meek Mill reminisces about his early days in the streets, specifically when he was 16 years old. He describes being enamored with the hustle and grind, comparing himself to the rap duo Clipse, who were known for their street-inspired lyrics. Despite his young age, Meek Mill was involved in significant criminal activities, wielding big guns, handling large quantities of drugs, and leading a substantial group of people. During this time, the streets were thriving, with lucrative opportunities and a sense of rebellion.
Meek Mill references a drug known as "white girl," which is cocaine. He personifies it as Christine Aculera, a seductive temptress that can quickly drain the fortune of addicts chasing their fix. He vividly describes the process of cooking and packaging cocaine, comparing its appearance to whipped cream. He admits to being driven by a hunger for success and money, disregarding the advice of his elder to patiently wait for his turn. Meek Mill unapologetically indulges in materialistic pleasures, comparing his satisfaction to Tony the Tiger craving Frosted Flakes.
The rapper reveals the dark side of his lifestyle, expressing feelings of paranoia and having to arm himself heavily. He shares his fear of being killed and the sense of isolation that comes along with it. Meek Mill questions the justice system, believing they will unfairly blame him for seeking retribution against those threatening his life. He emphasizes the harsh reality of the streets, where violence and tragedy loom, evident in the constant presence of the Grim Reaper. Meek Mill acknowledges the desperation of young individuals around him, willing to do whatever it takes to earn money, even if it means resorting to violence.
In the later part of the song, Meek Mill contrasts his own hustle with others who prioritize relationships with women rather than building wealth. He boasts about his success with drug trafficking, spending the profits on luxury brands like Prada and drugs. He reaffirms his individuality, advising others to focus on themselves while he continues to pursue his own goals without distraction. Meek Mill taunts his rivals, asserting his dominance and superiority in the rap game with the support of his crew, BH (Bosses Hustambangaz), and GT franchise. He warns anyone who attempts to challenge or undermine him to step up their game and to acknowledge him as the true boss.
