Initially, the three members—all of whom lived in different states at the time—worked on music remotely through the internet. The band went on their first tour in 2018, and were signed by Fueled by Ramen in 2020.

Meet Me At The Altar was formed in 2015 when Téa Campbell met Ada Juarez through YouTube; the latter had posted a number of videos covering pop punk songs, and Campbell subsequently reached out. In time, the two developed a friendship that turned into the band. To locate a vocalist, Campbell and Juarez held auditions online. Edith Victoria was one of the individuals who tried out for the position, submitting a rendition of Paramore's "All I Wanted." The name of the band refers to a text conversation between Campbell and Juarez, as Billboard notes: "The [name] stems from a text message Juarez sent Campbell in a bonding moment: 'I was like "marry me!"' says Campbell, 'and she typed, "meet me @ the altar."'

In 2020, the band went viral, partially in part of receiving public endorsements of pop punk veterans Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low and Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years. In October 2020, the band was subsequently signed to Fueled by Ramen. After re-releasing "Garden" under Fueled By Ramen, they released their first new single under the label, "Hit Like a Girl", in March 2021.

Their debut EP for Fueled By Ramen dubbed 'Model Citizen', was released on August 13, 2021.

@MeowTheRainbowX Like you said, it was by design, so it's relevant to question, who's design? Lots of female artists, even feminine ones, were pressured by their producers to perform hyperfemininity. It's very visible in pop music, but it was also the case in all other music genres. Some have spoken about it and this image was placed on them by poeple who didn't care if it matched their creative vision. I use the past tense because it's starting to change, but it's not like it's over.

Same here. I can take one look and be like, “Oh, cool, diversity!” and then I hear it and realize that it’s something I’d listen to regardless. It even makes me feel a bit guilty for finding it notable that they just happen to be really damn good, but it’s true that we don’t see a lot of black women (or black people or women) in rock.

I think with all-female bands, too, they sometimes sound more effeminate by design, such as how Shonen Knife sounds like classic punk and alternative but lighter, cuter, and poppier. (No offense to them; that’s a valid sound.) “Garden” is a pretty sugary song but no more than a lot of pop punk, and the riffs and drum patterns have an ass-kicking metallic quality to them. Thus, it stands out, even though it shouldn’t because women should be able to rock just as hard as men.

These girls aren't making it ok for black girls to play pop-punk because it HAS ALWAYS been ok for them, longer than these people and you and I have been alive. Jimi Hendrix, Bad Brains, Lenny Kravitz, that entire nu-metal run where all the good bands had POC, Gary Clark Jr was at the grammies, ect. Hell, Afropunk fest started in 2003, so who exactly was stopping people from picking up a guitar? No one. I mean, this totally ignores the success of TV on the Radio and Bloc Party. There's no reason a black girl can't see a white male musician and say, "hey, I can do that, too!" unless they view people of different races/genders as unequal.

@Brooklyn Dior growing up we didn't see this as often because of the boundaries set by their own communities. If you went against the grain you were disowned and nolonger "black" i watched tons of my black friends being bullied and beat just for doing things like listening to "white music" doing their homework and avoiding the streets. All that being said we shouldn't be praising groups, companies or anything of the sorts souly for being black or black owned. Support things bc they are good.

This is another fantastic video proving that the YouTube algorithm is rigged against new artists. This band is fantastic, seriously talented and have excellently developed sound and they know exactly what they are doing. No matter what though, you're not going to be recommended to them though because they aren't making YouTube the most money so YouTube isn't going to help them out even though they have nothing but positive reviews.
