Baby Talk
Megan McKenna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've swallowed heartache
Drank the pain
I’m tired and I’m Hungover 20 shots of love
So save your fake affection
Pretty lies
Throwing tantrums in the bedroom over nothing late at night

I won’t go down that road

Ive had thunder…pouring rain
I’ve had more than…. I can take
So I don’t need your baby talk
You might aswell just walk the walk
Unless you mean it
Then You can stay

I could teach you
Better for worse
Coz I got myself an a star
In the art of how to hurt
My mothers daughter
Eyes open wide
Don’t take my love for granted
It’s Time you realised

But I won’t go down that road

Ive had thunder…pouring rain
I’ve had more than…. I can take
So I don’t need your baby talk
You might as well just walk the walk

Unless you mean it
You can stay

Overall Meaning

In Megan McKenna's song "Baby Talk," the lyrics depict a woman who has experienced heartache and pain in past relationships. She conveys a sense of weariness and exhaustion from the emotional rollercoaster she has been through. The reference to being "hungover 20 shots of love" suggests the magnitude of the emotional toll she has endured.

The lyrics also address the singer's skepticism towards insincere affection and deception. She rejects the idea of accepting empty words or pretty lies, implying that she desires genuine love and commitment. The line "throwing tantrums in the bedroom over nothing late at night" reflects the conflicts that arise from trivial matters, indicating a lack of emotional maturity or stability in the past relationships.

The singer has reached a point where she refuses to go down the same path of heartache and disappointment. She has endured enough storms and is no longer willing to tolerate superficial expressions of love. The repeated refrain of "I’ve had thunder... pouring rain, I’ve had more than... I can take" reinforces her resilience and the fact that she has surpassed her threshold for emotional pain.

Overall, "Baby Talk" is a song about a woman who has experienced enough heartbreak and is now seeking genuine love and commitment. It serves as an anthem for anyone who is tired of empty promises and longs for a deeper, meaningful connection.

I love Megan’s voice. So talented. Nice jam. I hope Megan’s success goes world wide. She is definitely as good as and up there with Other American & Irish country music artist’s. Megan should come to the Irish circuit and perform over here and appear on Irish TV. She would go down very well. My Aunt has just come back from Spain and they had a country music week in a hotel there and country music artists play every day in the hotel at various times with other artists and people love it. I am definitely gonna go to one. I am from London and relocated to Orelamd for a few years now and I love the country events that are here. Nathan Carter is English and he has done really well here. I would love to see Megan here. All the best Megan. Great song great lyrics. X
