Wrecking Ball
Megan Nicole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We clawed, we chained our hearts in vain
We jumped never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell.
A love no one could deny

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

I put you high up in the sky
And now, you're not coming down
It slowly turned, you let me burn
And now, we're ashes on the ground

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
And instead of using force
I guess I should've let you win
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
I guess I should've let you win

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me

Yeah, you, you wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

Overall Meaning

The song Wrecking Ball by Megan Nicole is essentially about the end of a romantic relationship. The opening lines, “We clawed, we chained our hearts in vain, we jumped never asking why” suggest that although the two people involved in this relationship knew that it was potentially unhealthy and unlikely to work out, they still gave it their all anyways. It's clear that Megan's character was willing to put her heart on the line, to take a leap of faith, and risk the unknowns, all because she felt strongly attracted to her partner.

The chorus line, “I came in like a wrecking ball” is an allusion to the power dynamics between the two characters. In the song, Megan initially felt that she could break down the walls of her partner, but in reality, it’s her own walls that have been broken down by this relationship. The vulnerability and raw emotion that she displays in the song are evidence that the relationship had a significant impact on her.

Overall, the song is a reflection of the bittersweet nature of love, the fact that sometimes we fall in love with someone who is not good for us, but we still want them anyway.

Im a music teacher in training.
Let me tell you, this song suits your voice better then some of the other songs you sang. This is easily one of, if not your best cover yet.
You sing with so much emotion. It suits the song well.
My score 9/10
Almost perfect, just need to play around with it some more.
Also, kudos for the different key, it worked.

@KRUDDYMUSICIAN I agree 100%. That's what I love about a song, when the emotion is there (directs you to The Weeknd) :D

I know she doesn't care, but I feel as the skilled musician I am, I feel it is my duty to go to videos and give my overall rating because sadly, most of the music videos on here aren't music. In her Just give me a reason video, I left a comment where people said i was an asshole for rating it that low. The truth of the matter is that we as a society are poisoned by what we think of as real music. Music is supposed to be from the heart. It's supposed to show emotion. Now tell me, how many times have you heard of a popular music group actually singing from the heart and with emotion? Not bloody many. If you don't believe me, look at the successes of music legends like Bon Jovi, Metallica, Journey, Elvis Presley, and Elton John just to name a few, and compare them with One Direction, Train, Skrillex, Bruno Mars, and Nicki Minaj.
Now, let me give credit where credit is due. The artists i listed have some good songs. They didn't perform them right though. My favorite is One Direction's That's what makes you beautiful. It sounds like crap. But I found an unplugged version where a guy is using a piano, slowed it down a bit, and gave it new life. Id watch that over the original any day.

This is completely opinion based. Respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.
