These lyrics from Melina Aslanidou's song "Ena gerani st ouranou tis geitonies" speak of deep emotions and longing for home.
In the first paragraph, the old lady represents the past and the hardships endured. The mention of the grey years signifies a time of struggles. The lyrics suggest that fate controls the dance of life, but the deepest connection for the singer is her roots, which hold her in beautiful times. This can be interpreted as a longing for the comfort and stability of one's home and traditions.
The second paragraph talks about the pain and hopelessness that love has brought. The singer's sorrows have solidified her hopes, and a kiss in the eyes of separation signifies a poignant moment of departure. The mention of the homeland as the greatest of all indicates the attachment and yearning for one's country. The desire to experience the return punctuates the strong ties to home and the longing to be reunited.
In the third paragraph, the mention of a small barefoot child left behind paints a picture of vulnerability and loss. The nights of crying in the corners of the heart symbolize the profound sadness and longing. The remnants of home, represented by the geranium in the neighborhood's sky, evoke a sense of nostalgia and attachment to familiar surroundings.
The fourth paragraph describes the singer's current state of being. She wears a cheap coat on the streets, implying a sense of displacement and hardship. The deep wound on her as a cross suggests that she carries emotional burdens and scars. She feels trapped in loneliness, like a ship closed off from society. Despite this, she is still searching for the person she longs for, highlighting her unwavering determination and hope.
The mention of the flames in the past and the new seasons in the singer's life signifies a significant change. The person being sung about becomes a breath in her every breath, bringing life and meaning. The rain in the eyes symbolizes tears of both joy and sadness, representing an emotional release and connection. It suggests that this person holds a special place in her heart, bringing new life and revitalizing her spirit.
