Haunted
Memoira Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Leave all what's sane behind you.
Let all this darkness find you.
Pray there's someone to guide you
When you feel the fear inside you

They are coming, don't try running,
Coz' your feet won't obey you.
They are coming, don't try running,
Coz' your feet won't obey you.

You think you're safe in your bed,
But the threat comes from your own head.

Cannot hide (Cannot hide from you) your own mind (From your mind).
Haunted by (Haunted by my own mind) his own mind.

Could this be more unlike you.
Strange mind and lust inside you.
There is no one to save you
When you feel the fear inside you.

They are coming...

Your nearly choken and wet.
But the filth comes from your own head.

Can not hide...

Overall Meaning

The opening verse of Memoira's "Haunted" invites the listener to embrace their fears, and "leave all what's sane behind you" in order to confront the "darkness." The lyrics suggest that running away from one's fears is futile, as "your feet won't obey you" when faced with the "they" that are coming for you. The repetition of this line creates a sense of urgency and inevitability, emphasizing the idea that one must confront their fears head-on.

The second verse shifts the focus to the internal struggle of the singer, who is haunted by their own mind. The idea that "the threat comes from your own head" suggests that the singer's fears are internal, rather than external. The use of the second person "you" and "your" throughout the song makes it more personal and relatable, drawing the listener into the experience of the singer.

The chorus is repeated twice, each time with increasing intensity, as the singer's fear and anxiety escalate. The final line, "Can not hide...," suggests that there is no escaping one's own fears and internal struggles. Overall, Memoira's "Haunted" is a powerful exploration of the theme of fear and the importance of confronting one's fears rather than avoiding them.

Listened to this album back to back now. Ghost are amazing and the best thing to happen to not just rock, but all music for a very long time.

A real lesson of humility and humanity, I'm NOT SURE if that was Tobias's message with this song, BUT, that's what I am taking from it. And nobody could make it all sound as good as Tobias does. A totally unique voice.

WhiteVioletButterfly

I absolutely adore this song, it’s gorgeous, but since you’re curious about the meaning... it’s basically Tobias’s diss track about his former bandmates, who sued him for extra money after they left Ghost. “Swede Saint Peter” refers directly to Simon Soderberg, Ghost’s former guitarist. The “do not forget your knives” refers to them backstabbing him. The lines “don’t you vomit savage slurs...” and “had you had the chance today, you could have sold out too” are pretty self evident. Google “Ghost lawsuit” if you want to know more about it. They lost and now owe him a ton of legal fees.

@WhiteVioletButterfly Isn't there another song on Prequel that mentions the whole trial situation as well as "pro-memoria?" "A pack of fools will take the stand" is a part of the lyrics of THAT song. For some reason I can't think of the name of THAT song, but, I know the beat is much more "rock n roll" than Pro memoria. Sorry, I just can't think of the name of it right now. I'll think of it right after I click on the "reply" button here. :)

@Julie Gogola
I think THAT song is "Faith" but i'm not 100% sure

Julie Gogola

@PommeDeter Yeah, you're right, it's Faith. thanks:)
