Memory Garden followed up their first Metal Blade release with shows around Scandinavia and some summer festivals including the mighty "Wacken Open Air" in Germany during the summer of 1999. Having spent the fall of 1999 and the beginning of 2000 writing new material for their upcoming release, Memory Garden entered their own studio "Annoying Sound Factory" in Febuary with Mike Wead once again in the producer chair. Some of the recording was also done in Mike´s own studio, Miseria Recording. The result of their work is the ten song masterpiece that you now hold in your hands called "Mirage". This time Memory Garden have taken their music back to their roots and made an even heavier and darker album than "Verdict Of Posterity". Combining both bone crushing riffs with catchy melodies and layered with beautiful harmonies, the guys have once again made the Memory Garden spirit come alive.

The Search
Memory Garden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The colored life turns black and white
The remaining pieces won't tell you why
When questions gather it reveals a lie
Empty, meaningless
Cold, nothingness
At the end of life, ooh oh
Erase reality, erase normality
The common life turns dark as night
Remember vaguely the loss of pride
Suddenly clearer, resistance dies
Empty, meaningless
Cold, nothingness
At the end of life, now beyond
The lyrics of Memory Garden’s song, The Search, describe feelings of loss, confusion, and desperation. The opening lines refer to a shattered image and shattered mental state, symbolizing the state of the singer’s being. The “colored life” turning “black and white” is an apt metaphor for a life drained of joy and meaning. The “remaining pieces” are a mystery that serves as a source of frustration for the singer, who is trying to make sense of their life.
As the song progresses, the singer talks about the emptiness and meaninglessness of life, and the cold, dark nothingness that they feel inside. The repetition of “empty, meaningless” emphasizes just how bleak things have become. The phrase “at the end of life” has an ominous ring to it, suggesting that the singer is contemplating suicide.
The third section of the song seems to describe a moment of clarity, when something finally clicks for the singer. They talk about resisting the truth, but it suddenly becoming “clearer” to them. This realization is not a positive one, as it seems to lead the singer to a point beyond hope or repair.
Overall, The Search is a powerful and haunting song that explores feelings of despair and hopelessness. It shows how small things can trigger major existential crises and how these crises can consume someone’s sense of self-worth.
