I was on a date back in high school in the 90's and we had just left the movie theater after watching Austin Powers and decided to drive in the woods and park and listen to music. I wanted him to kiss me so bad. This song came on the radio and I got more than a kiss lol. Saw him at our 20th reunion recently and it was so flattering that he remembered the movie we watched and that this song was playing during our quickie in the backseat. Wow! No comments in two YEARS? I heard this song in a record shop at the Newberry Mall in Gainesville, FL back in late Aug/early Sept ‘96 while I was in college at the University of Florida. I asked the cashier if she knew the song that was playing over the PA. She told me it was Mouth by Merril Bainbridge. I immediately left the line and bought it. The CD quickly became one of my favorites.

The words can be trite as they are here, but if the piece of music has a memorable catchy riff interspersed with a funky beat it more than makes up for a lack of lyrical depth. Other than Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Modest Mouse and a few select others, lyrics in popular music are just filler IMO. It helps fill out the song and give it a thematic identity, but not much else.

I remember back in September 1996 waking up in the middle of the night, and hearing this song play on the radio, and I was totally mesmerized by her voice. It still holds up to this day, Merril Bainbridge is wicked fine here, and there's not even any twerking involved. I'm also proud to have the CD in my collection.

Funny story: I remember being in the parking lot of the Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis one Saturday night in 1996 on a church bus with my youth group (I was 15). Our youth pastor had the radio set to a station that he thought was a CCM station. However, I remember very vividly that once we loaded up as a group to go home, this song came on and all of us were singing it and he quickly realized by the lyrics that this was NOT a CCM song hahaha.
