Maybe Tomorrow
Mesh StL Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You say you won't be frightened Or turn your hate to rage But time is not a virtue that you gave me And I won't say it's safe, but I'm in dire need I'm down on my knees, yeah Who wants the love? Who wants the hate? But we just need it 'cause the world will never change And all you ever wanted, my love And all you ever needed, my love And all my time is wasted Not today, but maybe tomorrow Not today, but maybe tomorrow Maybe tomorrow you won't be around to let me down You say you woun't be tortured You say you won't be torn But time is the virtue that I gave you And I won't say it's safe, but I'm in dire need I'm begging you please Who wants the love? Who wants the hate? But we just need it 'cause the world will never change And all you ever wanted, my love And all you ever needed, my love And all my time is wasted Not today, but maybe tomorrow Not today, but maybe tomorrow Maybe tomorrow you won't be around to let me down And all you ever wanted, my love And all you ever needed, my love And all you ever wanted, my love And all my time was wasted Not today, but maybe tomorrow Not today, but maybe tomorrow Maybe tomorrow you won't be around to let me down Not today, not today (to let me down) Not today, not today (to let me down) Not today, not today (to let me down) But maybe tomorrow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mesh StL's song "Maybe Tomorrow" are discussing the unpredictability of love and relationships. The singer is expressing their desire for love and their willingness to take risks, despite the possibility of being hurt. The line "Who wants the love? Who wants the hate? But we just need it 'cause the world will never change" suggests that although love can be painful, it is a necessary part of life. The line "And all my time is wasted, not today, but maybe tomorrow" demonstrates the singer's hopefulness for the future, despite their present feelings of hopelessness.

The lyrics also suggest a sense of urgency in the singer's desire for love. The repetition of "not today, but maybe tomorrow" emphasizes the idea that time is fleeting and that the opportunity for love may not always be available. The plea "I'm begging you please" highlights the singer's desperation for love and their fear of missing out on a potential connection.

Overall, "Maybe Tomorrow" is a song about the complexities of love, the need for connection, and the uncertainty of the future. It speaks to the human experience of yearning for love while also acknowledging the pain that can come along with it.

This song is so awesome, reminds me of high school. Glad I found it!

I searched for this song for so many years, over a decade, ever since I first heard its tantalizing harmonics hook on the local alternative station in the early 2000s, and then they stopped playing it on the radio.. I would hear snatches of it's melody in random places, once its opening hook was sampled for a random scene in a MTV reality tv show. I watched tons of videos on YouTube, endlessly searching.. Pressure 4-5, Finger Eleven, Taproot etc, but having falsely remembered the lyrics as Yesterday, instead of Not Today, my efforts were in vain. Finally I somehow got lucky and found it.. you cannot imagine my jubilation. Sheer euphoria.. I was haunted by the melody, I never thought I would find it or hear it again. The resolution of all my fruitless searches, like that line from the Peter Gabriel song. Thank God for you, YouTube. The Aughties were a very interesting and unique time, so glad to have found this fragment from it. Rock on, early 00 kids. Be Excellent to One Another.

These guys were very underrated. "Believe me" is another great song on this album.

Love this band back in the day.  Saw them live in STL.  Are they still together??   I still have my autographed CD.    :)

Nichole Bushnell

Oh, did not know they changed their name. No wonder I haven't heard anything from them in years. I last saw then in STL. Thanks for the info. I still listen to their old CD I bought at that concert.

Wow, I have this album released as Mesh before they were forced to put the STL at the end.
