Choir Of Horrors
Messiah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Agnus redemit oves:
Christus innocens patri
Reconciliavit peccatores

A lamp the sheep redeemeth:
Christ, who only is sinless
Reconcileth sinners to the father
It's written in the truth
I was crowned - I went down
Another man is raised - far too high up
A new emperor
Let him fear ruin! For in the scars it is written
Until he's shaken by the resonance of the seven trombones

Bel Marduk - glory to him by Chaldaeus

Later I saw an angel descending from the sky
One with great sway and the earth lit up
With his elevation and enlightment

The sinner was despised

Volupatis avidus - magis quam salutis
Mortus in anima - et ustus fortiter

I heard another voice amidst the lightning in heaven
Abscond Babylon and you won't share in the sin
And you won't partake in the pain

And as they glorified themselves and roused excess
To the same dreadful degree, they were overcome
By torment and despair

Up to heaven!

Os eius vias malus sederam elatus
Obdurat imperat ira vehementi sors turpissima

And I heard another cry from all of the trombones of retalia-
tion
Abscond babylon and you won't partake in pain

Babylon - pray for the choir of horrors
Babylon - choir of horrors

Then I heard it from the heart of the city
I reign as a queen and I'm not a widow
Never will I feel regret, never

Babylon - pray for the choir of horrors
Babylon - choir of horrors

And so the pain will come
Plague, sorrow and hunger

In just one hour, you - might Babylon
Will perish in fire

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Choir Of Horrors" by Messiah are intense and metaphorical, packed with biblical references and apocalyptic visions. The opening lines, "Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens patri/Reconciliavit peccatores" refer to Christ as the sacrificial lamb who has redeemed humanity from their sins and reconciled them with God the Father. The upright and sinless Christ is contrasted with the new emperor who has been crowned and gone down, but who is now raised far too high up. This emperor is warned that his fear of ruin should be written in the scars until he is shaken by the resonance of the seven trombones.

The next lines refer to Bel Marduk, the Babylonian god of sun and war, by his Chaldean name. The descent of the angel from the sky is seen as a symbol of enlightenment and elevation that contrasts with the sinner who is despised. The lyrics then describe a sinner who is lascivious and greedy for pleasure rather than salvation, condemned to die and burn fiercely in his soul. The voice amidst the lightning in heaven advises those who want to avoid sharing in the sin and the pain to abscond Babylon. However, Babylon reigns as a queen who won't feel regret and will eventually perish in fire, plagued by sorrow, hunger, and death.

@Uriah Verne cuz people don't like to dig to find gems like this, takes too much effort for most, at least that's what it seems like. Majority of people just accept what ever's shoved in their face the most as what's good or the best instead of searching for bands who do it way better.

Uriah Verne
