Metallica first found commercial success with the release of its third album, Master of Puppets (1986), which is cited as one of the heaviest metal albums and the band's best work. The band's next album, ...And Justice for All (1988), gave Metallica its first Grammy Award nomination. Its self-titled fifth album, Metallica (1991), was the band's first not to root predominantly in thrash metal; it appealed to a more mainstream audience, achieving substantial commercial success and selling over 16 million copies in the United States to date, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era. After experimenting with different genres and directions in subsequent releases, Metallica returned to its thrash metal roots with the release of its ninth album, Death Magnetic (2008), which drew similar praise to that of the band's earlier albums. This was followed by the band's 10th studio album, Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016), with its 11th album, 72 Seasons, releasing in 2023.
In 2000, Metallica led the case against the peer-to-peer file sharing service Napster, in which the band and several other artists filed lawsuits against the service for sharing their copyright-protected material without consent, eventually reaching a settlement. Metallica was the subject of the acclaimed 2004 documentary film Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, which documented the troubled production of the band's eighth album, St. Anger (2003), and the internal struggles within the band at the time. In 2009, Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band co-wrote the screenplay for and starred alongside Dane DeHaan in the 2013 concert film Metallica: Through the Never, in which the band performed live against a fictional thriller storyline.
Metallica has released 10 studio albums, four live albums (including two performances with the San Francisco Symphony), 12 video albums, a cover album, two extended plays, 37 singles and 39 music videos. The band has won nine Grammy Awards from 23 nominations, and its last six studio albums (beginning with Metallica) have consecutively debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Metallica ranks as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, having sold over 125 million albums worldwide as of 2018. Metallica has been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by magazines such as Rolling Stone, which ranked the band No. 61 on its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list. As of 2017, Metallica is the third-best-selling music artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, selling a total of 58 million albums in the United States.

Curses rest on thee
Solitaire and sorrow
All eternity
Save the Earth and claim perfection
Deem the mass and blame rejection
Hold the pose, fein perception
Grudges break your back
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on
Right on me
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, rise
Crucify and witness
Circling the sun
Bastardized in ruin
What have you become?
Blame the world and blame your maker
Wish 'em to the undertaker
Crown yourself the other savior
So you carry on
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on
Right on me
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, rise!
Masquerade as maker
Heavy is the crown
Beaten down and broken
Drama wears you down
Overload, the martyr stumbles
Hit the ground and heaven crumbles
All alone the fear shall humble
Swallow all your pride
All you bear
All you carry
All you bear
Place it right on

Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies

Atlas, rise
The song "Atlas, Rise!" by Metallica has some significant and profound lyrics that offer multiple interpretations. At its core, the song explores the theme of the Greek mythology of Atlas, a titan condemned to bear the weight of the world on his shoulders. The opening lines of the song depict a feeling of bitterness and burden that curses the person about whom the song revolves. The person feels entirely alone, carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders, and is ultimately crushed by the heavy skies.
The song goes on to explore the ideas of ownership and responsibility, asking the singer to own their grief and pain. The verses also touch upon redemption and the idea that one can save the world by taking ownership of their pain and persevering, even in the face of overwhelming odds. The last stanza in the song alludes to the idea of the hero's journey, with the singer overcoming the obstacles and becoming a hero.
In conclusion, "Atlas, Rise!" is exploratory and intense, with lyrics that tackle the complexity of the human condition.

Now some honest feedback: This song is quite the surprise! it has some Death magnetic flavor but the riff constantly reminds me of Hallowed be thy name (Iron Maiden), the song is pretty standard, nothing too extraordinaire, but it's something you can listen to without getting tired of it.
Lyrically speaking, James is on top of his game again! :D imagine this song live, that's what this song is missing, the roaring metallica family on the background.
Remember that every album is composed of "Bridge songs" like Tool, remember the 4TH Song of the lateralus album? That one called "Mantra" that leads up to the fantastic "Schism" track? What if this Metallica Song is just preparing us for the next track of the album, "Now that we're dead" we had the frantic "Hardwired to self destruct" before "Atlas Rise" you see the pattern?
Start off heavy no boundaries!! then slow down a bit, then retaliate with a heavier shot!
This track is just the warm up of something bigger, heavier and fucking epic.
