Allie was raised on American folk and grew up playing other peoples' music on her piano. Adulthood brought a desire to learn guitar and also a fascination with synthetic sounds and dreamy, trip-hop vocals that she was eager to incorporate into her own compositions. Learning to play guitar led her to begin writing her own songs.
Greg Doscher was previously a guitarist in Tripdavon with which he recorded and co-produced 3 albums touring in Asia, Europe and North America with their debut album reaching number 12 on the UK charts. On break from this project, he had been eager to work with a broader range of sounds and Allie’s unique voice proved to be an effective counterpoint to the blend of electronic and organic sounds in his productions.
Their first single, Fade, was released in the summer of 2014. As a totally unknown act with no label and no marketing push it managed through sheer word of mouth to reach number 1 on Hype Machine’s most popular chart twice over the course of the next few months and became one of the biggest indie breakout hits of the year. Encouraged by the overwhelming response to “Fade”, Allie and Greg formed a live band to tour and continued to write and record new material. Subsequent singles “Colors”, “Shot the Moon” and “Watery Dreams” were all well received and continued to build on what their debut single had started while expanding the boundaries of their sound. Their self-titled debut EP was released on September 15, 2015.
Fade
Mexico City Blondes Lyrics

When you ought to make me care for you
They always said I have good legs for walking
But I just sit and stare while you
Fade love
Fade around
Fade out completely
I could sing so sweetly
You think your compliments complete me
The way you dove in mine like currency
But I've got all the goods I need deep down
And I trade my ear to ear every sound
Fade love
Fade around
Fade out completely
Without all this noise
I could sing so sweetly
Silence is the only noise worth hearing
Between the oh so lonesome and weary
Soak up the sound of the pin whilst dropping
It's only heard when we stop all this talking
Fade love
Fade around
Fade out completely
Without all this noise
I could sing so sweetly
The song "Fade" by Mexico City Blondes is a melancholic track that explores the theme of love and the desire for silence. The song's opening lines set the tone for the rest of the track as the singer addresses the object of her affection, commenting on their ability to talk but not necessarily make her feel cared for. This establishes a sense of detachment that is a recurring theme throughout the song. The lyrics also suggest that she is content with her own company, as she remarks that she has "all the goods [she] needs deep down." This suggests a sense of self-reliance and independence.
The chorus of the song is where the main theme of the track becomes apparent. The singer implores for love to fade out, and for there to be silence so that she can "sing so sweetly." This suggests a longing for a moment of quietude and solitude, where she can engage with her own thoughts without any external influences or distractions.
The bridge of the song adds further depth to these themes, highlighting the importance of silence in both music and life. The idea that "silence is the only noise worth hearing" is a poignant reminder of the beauty of stillness and the importance of taking a moment to pause and reflect. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, cementing the idea that the singer yearns for peace and quiet above all else.
Overall, "Fade" is a beautiful and introspective song that explores themes of love, detachment, and the power of silence. It is a reminder that sometimes the most powerful moments are the ones where we take a moment to simply listen and be present in the moment.
