Growing up on Australia’s southern coast, Tyson watched her father build custom guitars by hand. He would play records by The Band and Bob Dylan and she would dream of playing lead guitar in arenas around the world. She vividly remembers the day her father brought home the album Nick of Time with Bonnie Raitt on the cover, guitar strapped to her back like a rifle. She played that record over and over until the grooves wore out. At age 13, her father took her to see Bonnie Raitt play The Melbourne Concert Hall. Thirteen years later, she would play that same venue… as the opening act for Bonnie Raitt. It was a dream come true when Raitt asked her to duet on “Love Letter,” night after night.
On the road since she was 19, Dyson went on to record three self-produced albums, each nominated for an ARIA (Australian GRAMMY). Her sophomore album, Parking Lots, won the ARIA and garnered her a nomination for “Best Female Artist.” She has featured at major international music events including the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival (CANADA), WOMAD, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, and on the Central Park NY Summer Stage with Ani DiFranco.
In 2009 Dyson relocated to Boston to try to break into the American music scene. She toured continuously, playing clubs and festivals across the country and in 2010, moved to Los Angeles.
Her fourth studio album, The Moment, was released in August 2012. It was nominated for Best Blues & Roots Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2012.
In August 2013, Dyson collaborated with Liz Stringer and Jen Cloher and formed Dyson Stringer Cloher. The trio released an EP which featured an individual track from each musician. They then took on the road, playing over 40 shows around Australia.
Dyson's fifth studio album, Idyllwild, was released in June 2014.
Dyson released her sixth studio album If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back in March 2018.
In 2019, Dyson reunited with Stringer and Cloher and the trio recorded an album in eight days at The Loft in Chicago in April 2019. The album was released in October 2019.

Set an open course for the virgin sea
'Cause I've got to be free
Free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board I'm the captain
So climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try
To carry on
I look to the sea
Reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends
And the dreams we had
We lived happily forever
So the story goes
But somehow we missed out
On the pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can to carry on
(yeah)
A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope and this is what they said
Come sail away
Come sail away
Come sail away with me
(you guys)
Come sail away
Come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away
Come sail away

But much to my surprise

It is difficult to interpret and analyze the lyrics of the given song because they are not complete and do not completely align with the original version of "Come Sail Away" by Styx. It appears as though these lyrics are a parody version of the original song that has been edited by the creators of the show "South Park." In the original version of "Come Sail Away," the lyrics tell a story of a person leaving their past behind and setting sail for a new adventure. The opening verse speaks about sailing towards the unknown and being free to face whatever comes. The captain, who could be interpreted as either the singer or God, invites whoever hears the song to come aboard their journey towards tomorrow.
The following verse reflects on the singer's past memories, including happy and sad times with their childhood friends. However, the past is not emphasized as much as the present and the journey ahead, which has the potential to be very rewarding but can also involve missed opportunities to seize the "pot of gold." The chorus, which is repeated several times throughout the song, implores the listener to come along and sail away with the captain or God towards new horizons.
