Top Of The World

Sitting on the top of the world

One summer day,
She went away.
She gone and left me,
She gone to stay.
But now she gone,
And I don't worry.
'Cause I'm sitting
On top of the world.

Worked all the summer,
And worked all the fall.
I had to take my Christmas,
In my overall.
But now she gone,
And I don't worry.
Because I'm sitting
On top of the world.

Goin' down to the freight yard,
Just to meet a freight train.
I'm gonna leave this town,
Well it's just got too hard.
But now she gone,
And I don't worry.
'Cause I'm sitting
On top of the world.

One summer day,
She went away.
She gone and left me,
She gone to stay.
But now she gone,
And I don't worry.

'Cause I'm sitting
On top of the world.

Overall Meaning

The song "Sitting on the top of the world" is a blues classic, originally recorded by the Mississippi Sheiks in 1930, but has been covered by a wide range of artists such as Cream, Doc Watson, and Bob Dylan. The song is about a man who has been abandoned by his lover but feels happy and free now that she is gone. The singer sings about working hard all summer and fall and spending Christmas in his overalls. He admits that life has been hard, but now that his lover has left, he feels like he is on top of the world. The second verse establishes the singer's need to escape his current situation, and he declares that he is headed to the freight yard to catch a train out of town.

The repetitive nature of the chorus reinforces the singer's sense of freedom and relief. He repeats that he is on top of the world, and the listener is convinced that he truly feels that way. The bluesy guitar riffs and the somewhat upbeat melody of the song help to lift the listener's spirits in the face of the singer's heartache. It is as if the music is conveying the sense of elation that the singer is experiencing as he contemplates a new life without his lover.

Overall, the song "Sitting on the top of the world" is a masterpiece of the blues genre. It effectively captures the joy and pain of love and loss, and its undeniable energy and catchy melody have made it a favorite of musicians and fans alike for nearly a century.

Before hussey, there was Bevan.. Underrated legend of Australia.. Guy was no.1 Odi batsman for 4 years with average of almost 60.

@G4MBIT

He was the reason why Hussey couldn't get into the team until his late 20s.

@sph8483

@@sph8483 - I think underrated in the way that in that era of absolute stars; he could still be classed as underrated in the scheme of that. He was an ODI beast. Reliable run chaser; managed the situation perfectly for the volatility he had to deal with down the order. Was a monster in the field; and a decent pinch-hit bowler.

50+ avg constantly. A gem only 90s generation knows. A forgotten hero!!!

@mohdsaad90

Huge outfields
Smaller bats
Balanced pitches
Something in the game for both batsmen and bowlers ... unlike the runfest days of this era.

@rihitjamb3757

Saad Kidwai Add powerplays and only batsmen rule cricket nowadays

@sudipchatterjee

You're absolutely spot on! Those outfields are replaced nowadays with "sporty" pitches. "Sporty" is just a euphemistic term for batsman-friendly. Alas!
